I left my job because of the lies and double standards

So, I've posted about the ABA I worked at before. Well, let's just say shit got worse. My supervisor thought she was above company policy and berated me for taking covered time off due to illness (let's add that I worked in a childcare setting and have a compromised immune system that was definitely exacerbated by little kids). And said we were only allowed 1 sick day a month (not at all what company policy says). I was honestly planning my leave then. But I wanted to talk to my partner first, since it does affect him. Then, yesterday, I go in and start my session with my patient. I'm halfway through my session when my supervisor comes up and demands I come to her office. I comply, but I already had a bad feeling. And then she started on the accusations. 1) calling my 2yo patient names/speaking rudely to…

Overtime converted to PTO without prior consent

This is for the state of IL and I was trying to look up laws around this. I recently took a sick day off from work then had to work through lunch later in the week. I was emailed and notified that they would be adding an hour of PTO back rather than paying out the overtime. I am having trouble finding any specific laws or items related to this and I'm hoping someone here might be able to help me with this. Other information about OT laws would also be helpful. For example I was reading that in IL OT that hasn't been paid can still be collected up till 3 years after it was worked and the employer is trying to make it mandatory that we submit overtime request in day of. I only just learned about that one. I will be meeting with my supervisor tomorrow to…

ATTN High Schoolers: Don’t let employers sell you short.

Rolled through a McDonald's today and they had a “Now Hiring” – for lack of a better term – “sign” (it was a piece of printer paper with zany font on it) saying: “New Hires: $16.50/hr starting pay, 32+ hrs/week guaranteed High Schoolers: $14.00/hr starting pay, 20 hrs/week” Idc what anyone else thinks: this is bullshit. Just because you're in high school/a teenager does not mean you are worth less than your co-workers. I've worked with teenagers before, and some of them were harder working than any of the 21+ crowd that I worked with there. In fact, high schoolers, you should all demand more, or walk. The service industry is going to be heavily (if not already) relying on teenagers because high schoolers are looking for work and “can afford” to take $14/hr. Don't fall for that garbage. If you're applying for a job, do not take the “High…

Realistically, what is the solution?

Your slavers will never be your salvation. I am black, and the notion of “it’s getting better” isn’t helpful as it denotes that the suffering never stopped, it’s becoming more bearable. Telling millions of people to endure until these boomers die is tantamount to the aforementioned. We don’t have enough votes federally and the state legislation we have and will get, has and will be greatly reduced by the barrage of litigation they throw against it. The media is owned by the very same demographic we are up against. Social sway won’t happen. We don’t have the money, influence, or social equity to beat them… so what do we do? Striking won’t work. Closures won’t work. Like… ???

Follow up: Boss text (check post History- 1st Week December)

I wanted to add a conclusion to my tale. After my boss consistently and persistently neglected to give consideration to my family's well being following the house fire, I was dealing with an incredibly taxing evening. I suffered extreme trauma to my psyche, as I had saved my grandparents in a housefire roughly a decade prior to now. Seeing the charred remnants of my former life, along with flashbacks of said previous fire (which consumed my only consistent childhood home), along with the stress of possibly losing my longstanding career job, I made the decision to have a drink at the local pub. In doing so, There was set forth a series of unfortunate events in which I wrecked my new car, (which was mostly purchased out of necessity, as my employer erroneous told me I would not be driving as many miles as I was upon hire.) Insurance neglected…

Mike Andes P4P

I'm a landscaper and my boss is changing our hourly wages to P4P (pay for performance). Maximum efficiency is required to obtain good money. You have set amount of budgeted hours a day, if you come in below it your good, if you exceed it you get paid the base pay which is lower than my current dollar per hour. This all sounds like some corpo bullshit to make us work harder, faster, smarter with little incentive except to make my boss more money faster. From what I've gathered on YouTube is that all the commenters don't trust their employees so I'm already thinking this isn't for the benefit of me, but for the owner. Is anyone familiar with this Mike Andes P4P shit? If so should I run or should I stay because the money is actually better? It seems like more pay for less hours worked but it…

12.00 an hour pace

30 years ago, I worked in a restaurant. I will never forget when another cook was told by the owner to work faster. He replied, “This is my 12.00 an hour pace”.

The time you almost got fired over a misunderstanding

I'll start first. I was working at an engineering company. I was new to the company, like a month in. Their product line contained multiple categories of products. They were constantly engineering custom versions of their products for their customers. I was in the general manager's office, and I asked him: “Don't you guys have any standards?” He paused, then stared back at me and said… “Look I don't know if this is going to work out”. I immediately realized that it sounded like I was talking about their standards as a company in general and elaborated, saying that I meant – standard products that don't require customization.
