Major hospital in Reno Nevada announced a few months back a huge deficit (like over $100 million). So they froze everything: hiring, wages, merits, promotions, even the 401(k) matching. They would revisit in 2023. Well, yesterday out of the blue a meeting was held and most of the IT staff were told that their entire function would be outsourced as of January 1. The hospital contracted with a company and it will save them $9 million over 3 years (pennies). But don’t worry, staff will be offered contracts with this new company. No, they don’t know what the pay will be. No, they don’t know what their benefits are. Oh, because of policy, everyone will lose any of their accrued PTO. Oops. Been with the company for decades…there goes your longevity. If you choose to not take the contract, they will consider this your resignation so you will not be…
I am a Dental intern, My compulsory 1 yr internship which i was doing in my Dental School itself is going to end this Month. I had taken leave for 15 days after undergoing poplypectomy & Rectal Mucopexy, in the Head of department in which i was posted & and was absent due to my surgery, is refusing accept my Medical certificate, Citing there are no rules regarding medical leave for us. I have exams coming up for my Post graduation next month and i wanted some time to study after completing my internship. Also i am doing unpaid internship, when we ( all the dental interns) asked for some sort of payment , Our Dean refused, saying it's more important for us to learn things than money and that we are in a private college and college doesn't have money to pay us(even though According to rules all interns…
Workplaces built for you not to succeed
Sometimes it's because of personal limitation (physical or mental), sometimes it's just like your superiors want you to be miserable. But since you need to work to basically just be alive, they know you won't leave or will have trouble doing so. I want to hear your stories. I must not be alone in this. In my case, I have to listen to recordings all day. That's the job. But the office I am in is pretty much a construction zone, and that is since I got here 5 or 6 months ago (and doesn't seem likely to be done soon). So in the middle of the work day, you'll get loud saw noises (barely any insulation), hammering, etc. For the record, I don't blame builders for doing their jobs, it's literally what they are there to do; the problem is doing audio-intensive work in a workplace that is already…

No kids at work but dogs are okay
So my workplace apparently does not allow kids but does allow dogs. It's a small office setting with a business casual vibe. It's pretty relaxed, break times are just whenever you feel like it, etc. Well I was told I am not allowed to bring my 11-year old to work (on days where I'm desperate, like around holidays when there is no school and no camp etc.). Fine, that's fair, we don't want everyone bringing their kids and turning it into a daycare, I totally get it. But why is it okay that people bring their dogs? Five different people now have brought their dogs on multiple occasions, not just to pop in but for the whole work day. One of them is a puppy. One of them accidentally got locked inside a room and started freaking out and we had to spend 2 hours trying to get the door…
How to fill your day?
So I work for a company controlling the spare parts department (department = me), the guy before me had an overly complicated system that took up more time than he had in a day. When I started I was aloud to put my own system in place, I did this over the course of a month and now I honestly work for about an hour a day and this is where my problem lies. I have asked multiple times for more to do so I can fill my day as I like to stay busy and in my eyes what I do isn’t worth the money they are paying me. I think my question is.. has anyone else had an experience like this and how do you fill your day?
