How do we convince people our current system doesn’t work? I’m so ready for the next thing.

I want to strike, I want to revolt, but they don't do anything if we don't convince people that what we want works for them too. How do we build a mutual aid network to help those afraid of losing work?

Any knowledge workers here have experience with not being trained?

I’ve working in an engineering company for almost 4 years. I don’t want to say what kind of company for confidentiality purposes. The first two I worked as a test engineer and I definitely learned a lot as my boss really wanted to teach and pass on the knowledge. Then I decided I wanted to get some design experience so when an opening in the engineering department I applied and got transferred. My new boss told me that I’d be getting trained in the first few months I was there but during my two years in the engineering department it’s been a real struggle for me to learn how to design anything. One of my biggest hurdles is getting anyone of my co-workers to explain steps in the design process to me. I always get a partial explanation and when I try to dig a little deeper I either get…

Blatant sexism in the entire ellive event industry in utah

So my girl and I work in the corporate live events industry in Utah and there's like 3 big companies that actually produce those big 10s of thousands of people events Then they pay a mix of labor companies and individuals on 1099 contractor basis which is another giant pain in the ass that's definitely seudo illegal but not the current issue So labor coordinator from labor company X (call her Brittany calls me and we're friendly enough that she unloads some information about why me and my girlfriend haven't been getting as much work lately. Apparently she's been friends with the labor coordinator from the main big company (Karen) for a decade or more and they talk still but apparently Karen HATES MY GUTS for unknown reasons (I've had very few interactions with her and I've never fucked up an event or given her reason to feel that way)…

“Oh just get a job. If you can’t find one then you’re useless or lazy”

There’s two types of people. One that has worked his knuckles to the bone to achieve success or the other one that’s privileged. He has success handed to him on a silver platter. They both have one thing in common. They’re out of touch with reality as they just tell you to your face “get a job you bum, it ain’t that hard”. I was prior service and i got into an argument with someone who didn’t support the military telling me that “if you can’t find a real job then there’s something wrong with you”. He says this to denigrate people who join for social safety net. Is it common for people to blame poor or lower class for everything? Tell them that they’re lazy and looking for handouts? Where’s this misplaced hatred coming from? It’s easy to say “finding a job is easy” or “you need to work…

Employer Keeps Scheduling Me When I Cant Work

So I recently got a new job a few months back, and during my interview I explicitly let my manager know that I could only work at 7 earliest on the weekdays. I don't currently have a car because my last one was totalled the day before my interview and I rely on my parents to take me to and from work. My manager has slowly been scheduling me earlier and earlier and I was scheduled for 5 this upcoming week. I emailed her and pointed out to her that I literally cannot work at that time, and now she is making me find someone to switch shifts with or find someone to cover my shift. I don't think that it should be my resposibility to do that. I don't know how to handle this and its becoming frustrating to me, any advice would be appreciated.

Fired During a Strike?!

In the US, individual strikes are a protected right of workers, regardless of union membership. It is considered retaliation to fire someone in the process of a strike, and said retaliation is illegal.

Be Like Jake

Once upon a time, there was a young man named Jake who worked for a large corporation. He was excited to start his career and was eager to make a positive impact at the company. However, he soon found out that his boss, Mr. Smith, was not what he seemed. At first, Mr. Smith seemed like a tough but fair boss. He had high expectations and was demanding, but he was also encouraging and provided valuable feedback. But as time went on, Jake started to notice that there was something off about his boss. Mr. Smith was cruel to his employees and often belittled them in front of others. He would play mind games and try to intimidate his employees into submission. He also had a habit of taking credit for others' work and was quick to throw others under the bus if something went wrong. Jake soon realized that…

Over the Line?

During a meeting today, my boss (dean of a school I work for) took a screenshot of the Zoom Meeting I was in with her and two other people. I did not know she took this screenshot until she wanted to talk to me after the meeting was over, and she just showed it to me without any warning. The screenshot showed where I was the focus of it and I clearly looked bored in the photo and during the meeting. For context, I recently had surgery, so I am in pain and am on pain medication and she knows this! She told me I need to look more professional, and she understands I just had surgery and all that. The only reason I am bringing this to this group is because this woman treats me like a child all the time. She always thinks I need advice, or she…
