Hi, my buddy is saying he got offered a gig as a personal banker which to me really sounds like an entry level customer service job TBH. I assume you get low pay, deal with angry customer yelling about their accounts all day, even though it seems maybe more prestigious or something at first because it’s a bank? But I’m like, how is that different than target where you can at least like, hide in aisleways and aren’t making sales calls and dealing with angry phone calls. Am I nuts? Aren’t they just the same low wage jobs that are pointless at entry level? How is it different than working in food service as a waiter? It honestly seems worse to me because you are making cold call sales calls and dealing with people mad about their money. I don’t want to lead dude wrong though maybe it’s better than…

I work for a security company that has me doing Loss Prevention for a large department store. I started 3 months ago and was given very little training. I was told the job is $16/hour and has no benefits at all. No sick time, no personal time, no vacation na-da. I took the job because It was getting to the point where I needed money or else I would be homeless. So I took it. I'm so mentally drained from just non stop surveillance of criminals stealing and having to stop them just for them to deny it and try to fight me or get confrentational. My grandma passed away last month and it was hell to get those days off I needed. To start this off, for my non-UK readers. PoundStretcher is the same thing as Dollartree in the US or any other stores which simply rely on even currencies (like the 2 euro store etc). I'm a graphic designer. My job isn't high volume or fast turn around or anything, it's a church and i'm doing church stuff. Whatever, it pays well. The problems arise with management and how, literally, stuck in the past he is. First off, I have to come into the office. What do I do when I get here? Sit in Photoshop and browse the internet. Last year when a co-worker asked to work from home for a few weeks because his wife had just had a baby and he wanted to help out, my boss told him “No, I don't think that'll work. If we let you work from home, then gustygardens might also want that.” Which I did. We later found out, because he let it slip, that the real reason he doesn't want us to work from home is because he doesn't like working from home. What's more…

I can’t tell if this is a me thing or a system thing. I’ll be so diligent in interviews asking about work culture and whatnot. And then i start working there. These bosses are entirely not self aware. I confirm with others if I am the one in the wrong and am told by many people (including HR, administration, coworkers, friends, family) that my boss is the one who’s crazy. Is this just how society is? All bosses entirely suck and I have to deal with this until I retire or die? Do I need to ask better interviewing questions? This is so depressing for me.

A person goes for a “working” job interview and is offered the job “on the spot”. Wages were stated to be a certain amount during training, and then a certain amount after training, what a quarterly bonus would be (if you qualify). Interviewee accepts the verbal offer. This morning, interviewee is contacted via phone and is told that because their experience in this field is so old and things have changed so much you still get the training wage as discussed and agreed verbally, but the wage after you are certified is now several $$ below the verbal offer/agreement. (It's not me, but I know things haven't changed because it's what I do for the last 20 years). Wouldn't the verbal offer that was accepted be considered a verbal contract? Or am I way off base.
