It’s so bizarre that we’re being told SO MANY JOBS URGENTLY HIRING but just in the last year, my interview rate for apps went from about 3 in 10 to…zero (every week!) and about half the places I’m applying to are sending these emails saying they’re not hiring after all? This last month the “sorry, we’ve decided not to pursue filing this role” emails have been non stop. Why don’t the headlines match reality? By the way I am NOT in tech in any way. Mid level professional, healthcare adjacent.
I'm sure I will be downvoted but I don't care. There is a lot of talent, potential and resources on this subreddit. We can think of solutions that we can do. Now. While we can rail against the current capitalist system, not to mention mourn those who when they DO find success, cut the rope with an 'I'm alright Jack, I've got mine' we can still be more proactive. People are striking worldwide – UK, Europe and mass walkouts in China. The whole 'denounce socialism' stunt in Congress is exactly that, a stunt. The elites are getting scared since we are as smart as they are only there are more of us. While right now you might be stuck with a dead-end job just about surviving, this would be a good time to think about how a business might start and operate. While you need money and resources, not everyone…
but the only concern for company leaders. Surely that won't lead to bad degenerative oucomes be unsustainable and corrupt democracies?
As a person who works as a server in the US, I am all for wage increases but it puts me in a weird place as well and I hate that it does because I know so many would benefit from it. I work for a very successful restaurant so my pay is mostly tips as my hourly is basically non existent, 5$ an hour. If tipping was completely gone then Id made significantly less and so even though I support the fight, part of me doesnt really because of how I benefit from this shitty system. Do I think this makes me a bad person? No, I work long hours to be able to make my bills and its not like I live comfortably as the cost of living is so high in my area, I like the money I make even if this system is shitty. Anyone else…
I've given two years of my life to this company. It's a small business, just me, the owner, and the owner's wife in the office until we got a second office staff. We were very “close”. When I came in, they had their filing in boxes that were just stacks of paper. I've created systems that have saved them from audits. I've worked as an assistant, an hr manager, a receptionist, a hiring manager, and an office manager. They openly praise me for “keeping the office running”. I honestly thought they were good people who cared about their employees. Then they cut my hours and flaunt their wealth in my fucking face. Fuck small businesses. Fuck corporations. Fuck everyone with the “entrepreneur” mindset. Greed.
This is a subject I raised in another thread here, the phenomenon of the “brain picking” interview. This is actually quite horrible. Employer puts out a job ad. You answer and are called in for the interview. The interview turns into an hours long detailed consult on how to do a certain tech or certain creative skills. You never hear from them again. You've just been intellectually fleeced. It wasn't a real job after all. Sometimes this sort of “job interview” may be phone or zoom only and they only keep you on the phone long enough to learn about a certain tech or a certain kind of modality used at the company you currently or were employed at. Because of a job seekers need to be perceived as cooperative and “team playing” as possible these fake interviews happen frequently. I've been roped into about a half dozen thinking, wow,…
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4876728/#__ffn_sectitle Just like the title says. Next time some bootlicker tries to defend that poorly gaslit crap, pull this out and let them know they are unequivocally wrong. I've seen that article on all social media, let's destroy this meme.
