Location: EU I work for a company, let's say as a software developer, since 2 years – I have signed an exclusivity clause and a non-compete agreement. I have been given the opportunity to start a company with a relative of mine which resides in a different country. The work I would carry out would not take place during normal working hours where I am working for my employer. This company abroad will carry out similar services which means I would break my non-compete agreement with my employer. I wouldn't be the “face” of the company anywhere, but my name would obviously be in the company registrar in the country where the company is registered. Before I dive in and commit to something, I would like to hear from Reddit users whether they've done something similar or have experience from something similar. What are some ways that my employer could…
I run one of those big car washs and January was supposed to be a big month but because we had a lot of cloudy days our sales slumped. (For context we sell monthly car wash packages). The owners wanted a plan to turn around the slump, and increase the excitement around making sales. Because I have been in management and sales for the last 30 years I was able to quickly come up with an incentive plan that encouraged and financially rewarded the staff by pushing a little harder. Everybody was going to win. I went in yesterday (on my day off) to train the team so that we could get as many sales this weekend that we could (since the sun is shining). I was there for five hours. Today I got a call from one of the owners telling me that he is on the cameras watching…
I hate this fucking system. I fucking hate this system! Every damn job I apply for takes me up to 10 minutes to apply. That’s 30 minutes for 3 jobs. Then after I apply, I rarely get a call back. If I do get a call back and an interview, I don’t get hired!!! LIKE WTF! What happened to the days when you could just bring in your resume and not have to go through all this bullshit! It’s ridiculous and time consuming! I’m sick of wasting my time. Indeed and every other way of applying sucks! Most employers suck too.
Offensive Raises?
I think I just need perspective and input. I don't know if I'm being unreasonable or not. I just had my annual review after being at the company I work for for almost 2 years. I have a white collar job for the most part and build the statistical models and do the data reporting on the operations management side of the house. My job is pretty stressful because if I make a mistake, it can be incredibly expensive. Sr. Managers & executives make decisions based on the data I model. Last year, I worked my ass off to go after & lead initiatives that resulted in the savings of hundreds of thousands of dollars for the company. I also took on duties of a peer that left early last spring and did (essentially) two jobs AND trained the replacement employee from early spring to early winter. All of this…
Found myself wondering on a recent trip to Orlando…WHY does anyone work at Disney? Driving down 1-4 is no joke. It's the worst road. Traffic is a nightmare. Like DEATH TRAP nightmate. Getting off 1-4 and to the back end of property to change into your costume is time consuming. There are no low cost housing options close to Disney, so you're stuck with a long commute. I get that at one time working at Disney was fun and you could have some pride in your job.. Especially as a young person. Pre Michael Eisner Disney employees got stock and that stock paid a dividend. They also had a retirement plan and great health insurance. You got free tickets and days in the park- so low cost things to do on your day off. Living in Kisssimmee was inexpensive. You could buy a house in Orlando for under 100k. A…
Optimizing Labor is what hurts people.
If you optimize so your employee doesn't have to stand 1 minutes between widgets, and they can produce widgets continuously non-stop, you have made that persons job harder and more prone to injury. This is a bad thing.
