Do we have anyone here from Minneapolis?
Hi, I’m Keebs. I’m a 21 year old living in the Twin Cities area and I’m looking to organize. I’ve never organized a protest and frankly, I want to avoid making myself look stupid if I didn’t do this right, but here’s the bottom line. All the social media circles that I float around in; comments under tiktoks, instagram pages, tiktok videos, reddit threads. Everyone (at least in the US) is asking ourselves when enough is enough and people will revolt. It seems protests aren’t as normalized here as they are in other countries. But I can’t imagine anything will happen without someone starting, as small as it’d be. If I put out a call for anyone from the Twin Cities to join for protest, to speak our minds, and put how we’re feeling about the current socioeconomic system into the ears of others, would you join? Is this something…
I work at a gas station part time to supplement my freelance graphic design work. In the slow times, it’s saved my ass. But my boss at the gas station, Dave, is just a good man. I’ve done some excel work for him to organize his books (which he paid me $30/hr for) and he does not live a lavish life. He takes home about $3500 a month. He pays all his employees a couple dollars above minimum wage. He doesn’t have enough employees to really offer benefits but he’s personally helped me get my teeth fixed. Dave drives an aging Nissan Leaf. When I wanted a month off over christmas to visit my girlfriend in another country, he didn’t even hesitate to say yes. He even apologized for not being able to pay me for that time. For Christmas and birthdays, he often will offer $100 in the form…
My problem with work is simple…
I always see the advice “do what you love,” but literally every job suffers from the same 2 basic problems: 1) I don’t have autonomy over my time. Someone else commands my daily schedule. I’m beholden to the whims of my employer, because I need money to survive. 2) Work can never be enjoyable when there’s the ever-looming threat of my livelihood being taken away. Employers have way too much power, and they know it and abuse it. I just don’t see how any work can be enjoyable unless you already have enough passive income/saved money to cover all of your living expenses.
This showed up in one of my feeds. After I got over being repulsed I started laughing. The right must be really scared to create this kind of BS.
