What the hell, cookie?!
There was a fire in the kitchen about a week before Christmas. All employees of this store were put out of work right before the holidays. Some have been sent to other Bonefish locations, some have been sent to other Bloomin Brand restaurants – everyone else is just without work for the foreseeable future. I worked here up until a few months ago. Aside from management, these are really great people just trying to make an honest living. Some are struggling to navigate their new jobs, being squeezed into schedules that couldn't really fit them to begin with. Their futures are up in the air. Besides being placed in another job, they haven't heard anything from the company nor has the company tried to help financially in any way. Bloomin Brands generates over 1 Billion in revenue. This is so shitty. It should be noted that this company also has…
Aggressive Employment Agreements
Do you all sign these things? Here's my issue: Im a video editor working in advertising. I've been working for this company since 2014. My pay has stayed the same and during the pandemic that stagnated pay was like taking a serious pay cut. My fellow editors and I have been taking more and more responsibility on and are working a lot more hours. So we banded together and asked for a slight raise. This pissed them off, things have gotten progressively worse and December 23, the day before Christmas eve I get what I believe is a fairly aggressive Employment agreement to sign. It's dated “December ___, 2022”. I've worked for them without a contract for 9 years, why change it now? The contract has a non-compete in it and it says I'm not allowed to work in advertising or have anything to do with advertising for one year…
officially insolvent
I can safely say after looking at our monthly obligatory expenditures, my wife and I won't be able to afford our home in six months. She is having our first child then. I just got a new job that pays ever so slightly more but doesn't offer health insurance for 90 (!) days. So between having to buy insurance ourselves for 3 months and then her not working right after the baby is born (which we have agreed on and I WANT her to stay home), there is not going to be enough money coming into this house to afford this house. We don't live in a mansion, we live in a decent home. We both have decent-paying jobs, little debt (besides the house, obvs.) and it's going to be impossible for us to survive. THIS ISN'T FAIR.
Not Allowed To Have A Life
You've probably heard of the super cute and happy online pet food company that isn't spelled Chooie Working here is fucking atrocious. You get 40 hours total UNPAID time off every 6 months. That's your sick days, late arrivals, early call outs, mental health breakdowns (because this job has SO many), personal time, and any other emergencies. Had COVID four months ago and now your mom died? Sorry, you're not allowed to go to the funeral. Sure. You can go if you want, you could totally just say fuck the system and go anyway. But if you go over on your hours, you are immediately ineligible for promotions, have the time you're gone subtracted from your next refresh (IE if you go 8 hours over on your time off, you only get 32 hours back for the next 6 months), and you're reviewed for termination by the literal worst scum…
i have no passion or skills.
i’m 20f, been in college since i was 16. got an certificate of general studies because i changed my major so much, i was only in college because my folks said i had to be. i didn’t know what i really wanted to do, and i still have no idea. now i’m still living at home making $15/hr as a warranty clerk— not a bad job at all and my boss is even my aunt. she’s not lenient with me (because of potential nepotism), but she is the only person i really talk to at the car dealership. i have really bad depression, anxiety, and i have borderline personality disorder. walking in every day fills me with so much dread, i try to force myself to get through it each day just to see my paycheck. but i can feel my mental health declining with each day. i just want…
Thursday my team received a spam email from the company we are contracted to work for's Yammer. An employee on his way out submitted a post stating the company needs to have diversity training in regards to racism against straight white men, Its still up. The post and comments are filled to the brim with EEOC violations discriminating against pretty much anyone that can read. Its like the worst reddit post you can imagine and its completely unmoderated, I guess they dont have mods on their company yammer, but because the company distributed this content to my email address they are on the hook for everything that was posted. I copypasta'd everything, sent an email to my boss and my personal email pointing this out and complaining that it has discriminatory content that I found offensive. She was just as offended as I and really pissed off that this content…
A need for change and an upset guy.
Hi, all. Thank you for reading. I just got home and I need to write this out because it will help me sort through the events that have transpired, plus I hope somebody can help me. I’m an arborist, which I love. During the winter, it’s slow. I, 25M, have been picking up shifts at a garden center for extra pocket money. This is my father’s friend’s business. To be concise, the pay is minimum wage, the responsibilities are to move firewood, decorate wreaths/grave blankets, and assist customers with in-store purchases (as most sales are deliveries). My boss has been telling my father the shifts I’m expected to cover, not myself. This stopped after I addressed it with him a few times. The main concern is receiving my pay. We are paid for the week prior, meaning if it’s the 3rd Friday of the month, we’re being paid for the…
