They Don’t Give a Fuq

I have worked for the same company for over 8 years. Clean record, odd day off sick Mid to late October my son was involved in a car crash, he's ok no injuries. The next day my company car was rammed. The department who should deal with this did nothing. I'm home based and cannot work without a car, so I dealt with it. Long story short it was stressful and a week later I got given a pool car that was illegal as there were two big stone chips in the windscreen. Then out of the blue my mother who is 79, has two heart attacks and we are told that she needs a triple bypass. Then we are told that the scans have resulted in no suitable veins and that further investigation needs to be done. 3 days later my dog dies at 12.5 years old, I call…

The price of a worker’s life in America: OSHA fines Caterpillar $145,027 for “willful” safety violation that led to Steven Dierkes’ death

What is the price of a worker’s life in 21st century America? Not much, in the eyes of the corporate elite and their political representatives. Global heavy equipment maker Caterpillar, Inc. willfully ignored basic safety measures that could have prevented the death of 39-year-old worker Steven Dierkes in June, according to a report released Wednesday by the US Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). On June 2, Dierkes, who had only started work at the Mapleton, Illinois, foundry nine days earlier, was taking a sample of molten iron from a vat kept at more than 2,000 degrees Fahrenheit when he fell in, instantly incinerating him. Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood stated in his report a few days later that the cause of death was “thermal annihilation,” noting that it took his team several hours to “sort through the metal fragments and find his remains.” According to his…

Applying to a job they want my GPA from 1990

Old guy here. My contract ran out and I have been looking for another. I see a job from linked in and apply. One of the questions is what was my GPA from 30 years ago. Admittedly it is not impressive but how about the last 30 years where I have worked successfully in a number of different positions and been promoted. The last 7 years I have worked doing the job you are advertising. SMH

I just called the HR to ask about attendance, and they said it doesn’t matter if you have cancer or tuberculosis if you haven’t worked here for six months you can’t get medical leave, I said what about Covid…

, they said that’s a different story, wtf is wrong with this country. Why Is Covid the only thing that’s reasonable to stay home with without being fired for being sick? An absence is an absence unless it’s covid? Why? I’ll lose my job if I call in, unless I have covid. I hate this.
