It’s a small local place, I expected small management but not for them to be this incompetent. My second week I worked a double then had to close alone without warning, manager told me on text to skip my legally required break but I still took it anyway even though I was alone. Then originally they promised 15 hours minimum in the job listing yet only schedule me 0-13hours normally making only $13/hr + any tips. Barely able to pay all my bills every month. Next there’s definitely a roach issue somewhere and I’ve seen two roaches, killed both, weeks apart, told the owner and received no reply. I’m terrified I’ll take them home with me. Then my check for 12/16 was short over $180+, I sent them the hours I logged from when I couldn’t clock in that Thursday like I usually was doing but they didn’t even bother…
I got fired on Christmas Eve
Hi guys. It's my first time posting here. Because of the Christmas spirit and being my favorite time of the year, I always tend to remember fondly these days. But there's a stain on these memories of mine. When I got fired on Christmas Eve. This happened around 2016, I was much younger and not as disappointed on how owners or managers could care less about their employees. I'm a graphic designer and I used to work on a printing store. Basically I was the “everything” man, the owner didn't know shit about graphic design or printing materials, inks, procedures, etc. And I was the one who implemented changes, new machinery, new processes, and introduced him into a world of possibilities only to be kicked in the balls. I had been working there for around a year and 8 months. I knew the owner was kinda strange, he's not a…
New employer – Background checks
Hi, I’ve recently got an offer and signed for a new employer. They’re doing my background check and I wanted to know what they’ll be checking as it’s kinda making me anxious. More specifically I wanted to know what they ask my previous employer(global investment bank) was made redundant from this role. So far they haven’t asked me for references/contacts but the 3rd party company asked me for permission to contact my old employer for references. What will they ask? Bit anxious as I didn’t get along with my second last Line manager and I’m scared they could potentially give a bad reference hindering my new offer, which I’ve worked so hard for? Anyone got any advice?
I work at a small movie theater chain of only 26 locations. I’ve worked here for six years and every year we get a Christmas bonus. Over the years the bonus hasn’t really changed all that much except for last year when it was Amazon gift cards instead of cash. Usually it’s only $25 for the employees and $50 for managers. It was nice to get some extra cash for the holidays and we all appreciated it over the years. But this year we all got $25 gift cards to the theater we work at. We already get free movie tickets and 50% off all concessions every time we get paid. The gift cards also happened to be recycled from a special deal we no longer do and costs the theater nothing to give out. I understand they don’t have to give us anything and we should be grateful they…
Finding out they decided to only start holiday pay at 3pm on Christmas Eve after multiple people picked up for holiday pay and we were slammed, we got 5 life flight patients at once and our manager is sitting at home typing….. this.
My buddy got approved for time off for Xmas eve and Xmas months ago. He planned to visit me, then due to “staffing issues” he was told last week he had to pick one of the days, but “would get time and a half.” He picked Xmas eve and texted me apologizing, but saying he’d need the extra cash. Since he’s only working a 4 hour shift, he’s still getting less than he normally would, and then also got stuck having to go in today as well, as his coworker quit after yesterday’s shift. So, he was approved for both days off, got guilted into going in both days for less money and more bullshit and had No holiday at all…..for a fucking gas station.
Such Change Over The Decade
Our location was bought by a corporation and is finally going through management restructuring by Jan 20th. the original family that owned and worked this location plans to “quit without notice” if they don’t decide to buy-back (they have the option to buy back the location, currently they have 50/50 ownership with corp that switches to 100% ownership by the corp) because one of the directors they hired (with a contract) before the buyout, does bad things to people who put in 2 weeks.. I think it’s called blackballing. He will try to make it very hard for you to get another job. Problem is, if I quit without notice (I want to fickin leave too and not work for this guy anymore) that will make me “ineligible for rehire” at any location owned by our current parent company, a Fortune 500 company. Idk what to do. He will find…
