Career hunting is killing my self esteem

I've just been miserable lately. Every career that actually interests me is just a recipe for rejection. It was literally easier for me to get into grad school than it's been to get into literally anything other than food service. I'm just trying to pay my bills and not be miserable.

threatened with firing for taking a piss in store washroom after hours lol

a few of my main coworkers and I worked late one night prepping for a sale (two of whom just came in to help out bc they're cool, totally unpaid). Because we were altogether, we decided to go out for dinner and carpool, leaving a car in the lot while we were out. we got back to the parking lot at about midnight and one of the guys thought “I have a long drive back and I have to take a piss, but everything else will be closed”, and, yknow, being longtime, trusted, hardworking employees with store keys and all, we didn't think anything of it? in fact he actually fixed some merchandise on his way out. all on camera in case it was a real concern — two people went in, to the washroom, pissed, locked up and came back out, while the rest of us waited. we were…

Will proper protests ever happen?

I’ve been reading this sub passionately for over a year now and I’m always encouraged by the comments calling for revolution, protests, rebellion, etc. There are many historical examples of this being an effective tool against oppression. I, like many of you, was comfortable financially for many years until the last year or two, and it just keeps getting worse. I wake up daily anxious, for myself and for all of you, and it’s exhausting. Why don’t we do this? What’s stopping us? I know many of the answers are something along the lines of “we’re all too tired from working” or “we’re too divided”. Of course it’s going to be difficult. Of course we will have to make sacrifices in order to do it. But isn’t that worth it? I would genuinely like to talk this through, instead of shutting down the conversation with cants and wonts.

Work is so toxic I ended up in the hospital

Okay I need advice: my boss has been making comments about me for the past several months- anything from “oh look, we have a megaphone” when I said hi while clocking in to “don’t shake your fking head at me!” And “don’t look so f*king confused, I know you’re not” when I was genuinely confused by his reaction to the word no. Things have gotten a lot worse, and on Wednesday I had to go to the hospital. I told him I was leaving and when he asked why I said that I had to go to the hospital and see a doctor. He looked me up and down, laughed, and said “really?” I repeated that I was leaving, had to go to the hospital and see a doctor, then clocked out and left. I’m bipolar and have been terrified of being hospitalized my entire life, so this was huge…

Boss stealing my tips!

Hi everyone! First time poster in this sub, hopefully i format this correctly. Anyways, i started working for this guy in May 2022 running a food truck entirely by myself and filling in at his other three restaurants whenever i am needed. When i started i had asked for $20 an hour, assuming i would be paid tips. Later i had found out that i wasn’t and haven’t been paid my tips even though I’m the only one who works in the truck. Most of our tips come from card purchases so i can’t just take them. I’ve asked my boss probably 4-5 times for tips because i know i work hard and deserve it, while i also know it is illegal to not pay them out to employees. He responds every time saying that he doesn’t make enough to pay me tips and has even been aggressive and yelled…

Job interview refusal

So interviews have not been going well for me. I’ve gotten a couple, but whenever they say they’ll get back to me in like a week or so, most never even just say, “no thanks” at this point. One interview I thought I did really well on, but they said they’d get back to me in a week, two weeks later I decided to send a follow up email because I was really hopeful that I’d get it. Two weeks after that they just said sorry, no thankyou. One interview on zoom, I thought was gonna be a one on one, but they had 7 other applicants there, and it was a mess. Another time, I had a zoom interview scheduled but they never showed, I sent them an email but they just didn’t respond. A week later I saw the listing for that same job again. Last time I…

What are the legalities of a company making you download an app to your personal phone? New job.

So, I got this new job and they made me download an app on my phone to clock in to work. But this app also tracks me at all times. The app will not work unless I have tracking to “always on.” I have this stupid manager who I’m sure is looking at the tracking after hours to make sure I didn’t lie about going to doctors appointment. My phone alerted me that “this app has been tracking you.” While at the doctors. So how do I go about this at work? I don’t want this crap on my phone anymore. Based in CA. P.s. looking for help, not insults. Thanks.
