PSA for those with chronic issues
File for FMLA/ADA accommodations. You need to qualify for FMLA, but there is no minimum hours needed to file for protection under the ADA. Don’t “work it out with your manager”. Go straight to HR and file for the accommodation. Be generous with yourself. Make sure in the paperwork you file for unspecified time/days off. Then, when you feel crappy and need to leave early or call in, email your supervisor and make sure you say “I’m taking FMLA time” or “I’m taking an FMLA day.” Or “protected time” or whatever. BCC yourself on these emails Then if and when they try to fire you for excessive absences, you have plenty of documentation that your time off was federally protected time. You will get money out of it, I promise. Might not be millions, or hundreds of thousands, but it’ll be some money.
Shutting down coworker
The position above mine is trying to convince me and our manager that I can help with their easier work. I explained to them that thier position is responsible for that work and they are compensated for it. I am not. It isn't in my job description and the extra work is the only reason they are paid more then I am. So without compensation for added responsibility I would not be doing it. They were not happy that I stood up for myself…..but hopefully this is where it ends and they don't try to go above my head (again, since they had already spoken to the manager about it). I will stand firm if management trys anything. They did try to down play the pay difference but I said the amount doesn't matter.
