So, i just started a new job at a grocery store recently. Im not in the system yet since im new so I don’t have a set schedule yet. So, I always ask when I work or I try to text someone when a manager gives me their number. Problem is that no one ever gets back to me. In person, it’s always “I’ll let you know, here’s my number” and then when I try texting them to see when I work, I never get a response. I’m getting pissed because sometimes I’ll have to go to work at 6:30 am and I like to make sure that I get enough sleep. I hate being left in the dark. I’m wondering if I should call them fucking again or just say fuck it.
Salary without overtime pay
I am a salary worker and don’t get overtime since we don’t track our hours. Today I let my job know I will have a upcoming appointment and would need to leave 4 hrs early from the 10hr work day so I would be working for more than half the day. I let them know the hours would be made up during this week and would be able to work all 40 hrs. They informed me this time it would be ok but next time I would be forced to use my PTO. I feel like the is unfair as I can be asked to work overtime without compensation for the extra hours, which I’ve done, but I can’t work a few less hours without being forced to use my PTO. Something doesn’t seem right, is this allowed?
It sure is.
Maybe medieval times were all bad
Cover letters need to die
Currently applying for jobs and it just pisses me off how they all ask for cover letters. WHY?! How is my resume not enough??? You either like what you see or you don’t. This bullshit letter needs to stop, it’s a waste of time and completely unnecessary imo. That is all.
Just got fired for the first time ever
I just got fired for the first time and I'm a little blindsided by it. To give a bit of context, I never particularly enjoyed this position and was semi-actively looking for other jobs while working here, though I never let that show at work and was very diligent and did my job well. I'm upset because I wanted to be the one to leave at my own discretion and not give them the satisfaction of firing me. At this job we're never given a set lunch/dinner time and just kind of go to the back and eat when we get the chance. On Friday I brought in food I intended to eat prior to my shift but the restaurant gave me my food 25 minutes late, no big deal, I'll just eat a little earlier at work today. I get to work, clock in, and we do our shift…
How to make good use of unemployment?
I'm being laid off (and no, I don't work for any of the big names you've been reading about!). Looks like it's going to be a long haul back into employment, so what do I do with all this free time ahead of me? I'm trying to figure out how to make the best of it and preserve what I can of my self respect.
