I’m looking for any advice on how to build a employee resource network (ERN) at a corporate job. The resource network that represents minority employees is basically a skeleton of other ERNs I’ve seen. Also, the diversity and inclusion team has one person doing at least two jobs and there’s a hiring freeze. How do we build a voice and power in the corporate world where joining a union isn’t really talked about? Have you built up a ERN with executive buy-in before? Other ways to go about building up a voice? I’m new and this Reddit is the main workforce Reddit I follow so other Reddits to follow is appreciated too!

I've been searching and need some help finding a website that I can show as proof to my boss that she's doing something illegal. The current policy at my work is that If you work a full day you take a 1 hour lunch unpaid. But if you have to come back early which sometimes happens, my boss will go in and edit your time card without your knowledge to make it look like you took a full hour. I know that's illegal but I can't find anything from the department of Labor or similar to show her.

Me and some of my colleagues have a really good relationship. I had the first staff party with them and all the others company coworkers in Christmas in an islet. It was pretty wild cause it ended up with me doing a djset, the medical staff that wanted to delay the returning boat so they could party with us and everyone of us where taking control of the bar counter making drinks by themself. I peed in two glasses during the djset cause I couldnt take it to the toilet. The owner had to kick us out. I also forgot my music key there lol, I’ll never go back.

Got hurt at work last week but I didn't think it was serious so I havnt filled out the paperwork for workers comp. I took off work and have seen 2 doctors . They both tell me I should file a claim but I don't want to be off work for months. It takes 2 weeks before comp even starts and then it's 70% of normal pay . Then I'll be followed and my privacy invaded by comp investigators. I have a doctors note excusing me from work right now but I feel like it's a matter of time before my work fires me for not submitting comp forms. Am I really screwed? I have more doctors appointments next week and I'd like to go back to work after these next appointments. I am not permanently disabled.

Can’t make this up, folks! My company passed out copies of the “Speed of Trust” to everyone and then sent out an email that it’s part of a new book club and while the meetings are during work hours the email explicitly said we couldn’t read during work but encouraged reading during breaks and lunch. I addressed with with upper management that this could be a Fair Labor Standards Act violation for our non exempt employees and was disregarded for it, they simply said it’s voluntary so it’s fine. Maybe the next book in book club should be the FSLA?

I’m on SSDI, was helping under the table at a tattoo shop for a bit. Their set up was that the artists have to pay the shop, whatever each artist takes home from a tattoo I would get 10% of- no hourly pay from the shop and it was on me to track down my tips, which meant my coworkers often owed me money. One of the piercers still owes me a couple hundred that I know I’ll never see. My position was expected to be there open to close- at their two other locations this meant 10am to midnight. However piercers come in at noon and leave at close, and the artists switch out around 6. My shop had people leaving early constantly, so I started changing my hours since I also didn’t have a key. When I was a little boy mom told me it's bad for my eyes and general health to sit 2-3 hours a day to play video games. Now I work 9 hours a day in front of a cimputer screen – is my health not important now?
