Performance targets/ goals…..minimum wage

New job. Don’t know anyone there very well. Management introduces performance targets. Some colleagues are only on 25 % of the new expected target. I’m a bit above and hopefully I will not be the first to get fired. But the new targets are unrealistic. We will pick the low hanging fruit and the more time consuming tasks will be done later. It will be difficult to keep up the numbers. Work environment might change. More competitive and less friendly. I have autism and other diagnoses. I don’t know how to navigate in this. If I work hard for minimum wage I create an even worse future. I can’t really improve my performance much. Maybe management are clueless about the goals and I don’t think anybody can reach the goals. Management thinks there is 50% easy tasks and 50% time consuming tasks. In reality it’s more like 10% easy and…

My job is implementing mandatory overtime with no mention of this during the interview, offer or training

I work on an assembly line, we haven't been meeting our quotas due to machine failures. Management has the bright idea to implement mandatory overtime. Our normal shift is 3pm-11pm Monday through Friday. They want to extend it to 3pm-1am Monday through Thursday and an 8 hour day on Friday for a 48 hour week. I have a contract that I signed before starting employment, it guaranteed certain works terms like the working hours and pay scale. The contract does not guarantee me to a certain length or term of employment. I live in Colorado, an “at will” work state. Do I have any legal recourse to not perform the overtime or otherwise?

boss won’t let people call out and ended up driving someone to the hospital

So a lot of people have been calling out sick this flu season. My boss has gotten fed up by this and said if anyone calls out too much she's going to talk to them about “adjusting their schedule.” Anyway. I have a coworker, let's call her A, who has severe anxiety and has been calling out because of it. Today, A texted my boss that she wouldn't be able to come to work because of said anxiety, but my boss told her she has to come in since she's already missed so many days. Two hours into A's shift, someone came in asking for help saying my boss is going to take A to the hospital because she was having a severe panic attack. My boss knows about A's struggle with mental health. A has worked here for over 3 years and taken multiple leave of absences for mental…

Boss sends group message warning against discussing pay. What steps do I take?

Boss: it has come to my attention that several individuals have not adhered to professional guidelines and have made statements to other employees revealing their rate of pay. Your rate of pay is a private matter between you and the person who signs your check. Employee: I'm not sure if it's lawful for you to ask employees not to discuss their pay. Boss: There are some laws surrounding this you are correct. However discussing pay at work is inadvisable. That being said all employees have signed a statement that they will not discuss pay. If this is a problem for anyone please speak with me privately. This is totally wrong, right? What are the steps I can take? I don't even care about my pay compared to others, but just making this statement makes me suspicious that there's a reason they want this to stop. Is there something I can/should…

Does anybody else follow the “antiwork” mindset but really like your job?

This might be controversial for this sub, I honestly don’t know. I love all of the content on here. …but I also like my job. I make more than I ever thought I would without a degree. I’m seen as very valuable at my company with the prospect of being bumped up to a position at the corporate office. I don’t feel I’m paid enough. But I don’t feel like I’d get paid more if I went anywhere else. I can take a half day literally anytime I want. I can call in saying I won’t be there for no particular reason and my boss will tell me to enjoy the day. Work sucks. But I have to work, so I like to look at the bright sides.

Boss told me I couldn’t go to the bathroom without “risking it”.

I work a security checkpoint in a shit hole inside of Georgia. Basically my job consists of logging in and out keys, opening and closing a road block, and checking in and out trucks. It pays like shit at $10 an hour, but it’s a pretty easy job if it wasn’t for the distance to the bathroom, which takes me about 5 minutes to leave the guard shack, do my business then get back. Problem is if a car comes through and I’m not there, the boss hears about it. If a truck drives through while I’m not there, my boss definitely hears about it. So every time I go to the bathroom i basically take the chance of missing a truck and getting reprimanded, which is what happened yesterday. I went to the bathroom at the same time as a couple cars came through, and apparently they complained and…

McDonald’s is a terrible first job

I remember when I was first going through the hiring process and had to watch all the stupid corporate videos telling me how to act, dress, eat, breath, etc. mine was geared more towards a “leveling up” kind of attitude where work was some kind of video game. Anyways I remember there was this one video of a kid who was depressed at work and the narrator over the video told the kid to basically push his emotions deep down where he’ll never find em and just smile instead. and I remember the kid was like struggling to keep a smile and the narrator kept on insisting until he smiled and then , he fucking leveled up, Ive never felt more disgusted.
