(Not mine. From a paralegal) Today was payday and they took out $40 from everyone pay checks without asking if we were ok with it. They did send out an email after someone asked what was the $-40 on our check stub about. The email read “$40 was taken out of everyone paycheck for the attorney Christmas present if someone has an issue with it come talk to me”
Overtime Pay – Advice/Help
I work as a legal assistant at this small firm in Chicago IL. I’ve been working for two months, putting in about 90 hours every pay period (45 hours a week). I have not received any overtime pay. Initially, a manager said it was because after 3 months I would get commission for the monthly cases I finished. I know commissioned workers do not qualify for overtime pay. Yesterday the firm owner said I would begin getting commission pay after 6 months, and I was eligible for overtime pay after today. Does my employer owe me the overtime pay I earned the first two months of working? That’s at least 30 hours of overtime I was paid at regular wage. Any advice here is helpful, thank you!
Complaint to HR about HR
So I wanted to complain about HR harassing me because I'm the only man at my workplace. But do I complain to HR about it? Because HR is the one's harassing me. Who do I complain to?
I had a job interview with a somewhat young, small company. I'm used to startups and I know there's a lot of work involved. But most of their cultures seem to value work/life balance and mental health more than the big corporations or older companies etc. Anyway, this manager happened to be a middle aged white male from Texas. I'm not saying that automatically means anything, but with this story I just feel like including that detail. After a pretty normal interview, my turn for questions came. I asked about work culture, he gave me a very generically vague bullshit response. At this point, from what he was saying, I was pretty iffy with my interest. It's an interesting company and the pay is fantastic, but I kept getting the vibe that they want to own your entire life if you work there. So I asked about the culture where…
I’ve been working at a cafe for over a year. On average the servers make about $60 per shift. The owner wants us to all buy $50 beer cards. Some of the servers don’t have the money to buy one and she’s threatening to take us off of the schedule because of it. What should I do?
My health insurance currently takes $178 from each of my paychecks. Starting next year, it’s going to be $251 per paycheck. It’s just my wife and I on our insurance and we didn’t even have any major medical costs this year! It’s funny because I made a comment to my coworker how insurance is a scam and how I really want free healthcare and all that. But then he complained how that would make our taxes higher. But I’m paying $500 a month just for mediocre healthcare! I would be making more money if higher taxes paid for healthcare. I just can’t believe that they’re allowed to increase our payment by that much. Health insurance truly is a scam.
“nobody wants to work” is such a lie..
Here to vent a little I guess, I moved out of my mom's house back in June found a temporary job at my local animal control in July that was supposed to turn into a full time thing until I had to pass a physical and a 2nd drug test that I was unaware of and was marked down as a “refusal” because I didn't have to go and they refused a blood draw instead so because of that I was fired in October. I've been calling around for jobs preferably in my field (animal care where I have some experience and a certification for dog training) and nobody is hiring and the ones that are haven't really been responding and when I call to check they're usually no longer hiring, at this point I feel stuck and I don't know what else to do. I feel like I don't…
