I really hate filling out self appraisals. I aways have. I've been doing then for 20 years and I've hated it every time. It's a ton of work and it either gets binned or managers basically take your work and tweak it to give you a “review”. I've had managers say “so you think you did well this year can you explain why you think so?” Are you kidding me? You want me to review myself and find a bunch of faults for you to knit pick? Pass thanks. It's your job to review my performance, not mine. Not to mention I told you why in the review. Better yet just keep your fake generated criticisms to your self. I have never come out of a review feeling good and ready to work harder next year. To me it seems like it's more about finding ways to get rid of…
Got fired for not fitting in
There's a lot of detail but I'll keep it short. I'm a bartender and worked hard. Did all the things with only one mistake the whole time (9oz wine pour instead of 6). The place is so packed all the time you don't really have to use social skills with the customers. At the end of every shift there's a good hour where all the bartenders socialize and I didn't really participate because I wasn't interested in being friends with them. Mainly because they were all alcoholics, were drunk every shift, were all about 5 years older than me and party people that were too cool. I don't drink like that maybe once a week usually a couple times a month and I'm a little nerdy but i have a lot of passion in mixology and creating good drinks in a timely manor. The other bar tenders talked shit to…
Hope this is the right place for this
I apologize if this is the wrong place, but last year in February I had a procedure done that my work insurance said it would cover. I kept getting bills and went back to the physician to make sure my insurance was provided correctly the first few weeks. I’m just now, 11 months later, getting calls from debt collectors saying I’m thousands in debt. I’ve called my insurance and they’re now saying that I owe the money and wont explain why I’m suddenly not covered. I refuse to pay these bills, will this affect my credit? I’m going tomorrow to discuss with a lawyer, I’m just very overwhelmed. I’ve discussed with HR and they said I just need to somehow find the money and pay it.
I had to take my computer to Best Buy, and I was particularly disgusted by #3 on this list: “3. Always understand that my clients' time is more valuable than my own (sci-fi conventions, car shows, and movie premieres be damned). No, man. Your time is JUST as valuable as mine. I hate everything about this. https://preview.redd.it/65pmxtr8toca1.jpg?width=614&format=pjpg&auto=webp&v=enabled&s=d0c5699681f6a504bb86cae9b2007a085ae0fe27
AI could never replace CEOs
AI: “It does not make logical sense to lay of Bob. His wife is expecting, his kid is terminally ill, and he needs his $30,000 salary. The CEO doesn't need more money, he has all his needs/wants/desires taken care of on $100 million salary + more in stock bonuses. Laying off Bob would only increase CEO annual bonus less than $2,000, which is statistically insignificant to someone who already has 3 vacation homes, a private jet, a car collection, and many boats.” Human CEO: “wait I can make Q2 numbers look better and increase my bonus for laying off people? Absolutely! They should have worked harder and pulled themselves up by their bootstraps like me. Sorry Bob, due to unexpected rising supplier costs, we have to eliminate your position. Oh, yeah, AI you're fired also.” See? If AI is developed with any sense of conscience, it could never replace a…
CBD in Texas?
Not if it’s been asked, but could any knowledgeable of the law (I wouldn’t hold any of you accountable based on my decisions) tell me if you’re aware of the legalities surrounding CBD in Texas, especially in regards to having a doctor sign off on its approved use outside of work? Girlfriend likes it for anxiety, and on occasion it helps me relax or makes me sleep when I’m struggling to and I’d like to know if I’d be in the clear for THC (the thing in CBD for those that don’t know) in case I’m hurt at work or seek new employment.
General strike in the making in Denmark
The newly elected government is trying to remove a national holiday called Great Prayer Day. Their argument is that in a tough era with war in Europe and increasing military expenses it is “necessary that we all make sacrifices”. The Great Prayer Day is one out of six national holidays within seven weeks. Denmark has the money and do not need to make everyone work more. Therefore the unions have made a website where you can show your support. Houndreds of thousands have already signed the petition. The unions and the employers are having their biannual collective agreement negotiations right now and it is expected that no matter the result the workers will vote no and strike in retaliation to the governments actions.
Or is it better to stay quiet? I want to be supportive. I should note I’ve been connecting with this person in hopes of getting a job at their company. So I want to build a supportive relationship and not have every outreach be me asking for a favor. Thank you!
