I recently left a company I have worked for since I was an intern, I worked there for over a decade. There I grew professionally very quickly, I made lots of friends and enjoyed the challenges that came along with the field I am in. I was in a really good position in the firm, and well liked. Unfortunately, my passion drove me elsewhere, and after such a long time I decided it was time to move on. I accepted a great opportunity, and when it came time to resign, I planned to wait until it was closer to my start date. I planned to provide 3 weeks notice due to my time there and my responsibilities. My plan changed when my supervisor and others started asking me to assist with pursuits for new projects. I knew these projects I would not be able to follow through on and it…
If you cannot strike you are a slave.
Just A rant on industrial action and strikes in the uk and what is happening local to me on a refinery. Contrary to what national (uk) media would have us think there is far more strike and industrial action taking place in different places here. Though coverage is scarce and thin as other things dominate media. My brother is a scaffolder and currently into his second week, facing minus -5 cold at 4am to be at the gate of a local oil refinery. To combat ‘cost of living crisis’ (capitalism crisis) some 400 men across all mechanical trades on a local refinery have taken action asking for what amounts to a £2 hr bonus raise per man per day as their wages or bonuses have not risen in line with inflation nor been increased yearly as promised. I’m genuinely curious. I work at FAANG and dozens of us stress the fuck out every EOM to get reporting done for our senior leadership. If the numbers look bad we have to be creative on why it was low. These same people are always in town halls like “just come to me for help, we’re all a team”. Yesterday at an All Hands one senior director encouraged us to get out of our comfort zone in our career and try something new.. as if having no relevant experience won’t disqualify you from getting a job. They fly around the world shaking hands and having dinners but enforce RTO. I feel like all they do is send a version of our bottom line reporting all the way up to the CEO. What tactical things do they do? Just approve budgets?

Anyway, my friend has been working as a nurse for 15 years now and I've noticed a major decline in her mental state. What encouraged me to make this post was a recent event which I still can't fully process. We were shopping for furniture when she got a call on her phone, it was work related. They asked her to come to work straight away on her day off. Despite her agreeing to it I could see the pain on her face. She excused herself and walked off. Later that night she came home 2 hours later than usual and missed the dinner I dedicated to her as some sort of compensation for working that day. She appreciated the effort nonetheless but that's when I made the mistake of…

Cowardice vs. Courage
Those that stand for their morals and make the world a better place get beaten down by corporations and politicians, yet those that are cowardly and follow the rules as blind servants are rewarded. Don't forget to rebel at least a little or things will never change.
