Tw: suicide Should I be getting SSP if I went on sick during my notice period? I started a job in June this year for a small business. Conditions and treatment were shocking. We would get verbally abused by the owner daily, which would continue into messages sent after work hours + other unmentionable behaviour. I tried to leave, but was bribed with an increase in pay in exchange for a longer notice period. Stupidly, I accepted as I thought the pay would justify the terrible treatment. Things just got too much though, and I tried to kill myself. In the last second I broke down and it hit me all of a sudden what I was about to do all because of my job and the way my boss treated me. The following day, I quit, contacted my GP’s and have been off sick since (currently 4 weeks) With…
My Anti-work Success Story
Id like to share my experience on how i’ve been able to achieve my dream at 26 years old. I come from an average middle class family and was fortunate to have a father who showed me that you can start from the bottom and work your way up in a company by working harder than everyone else. His favorite quote he still tells me to this day “if you want to be noticed, be the first one in and the last one to leave.”. He is now the CEO of a national company that he has been working at for 25+ years. He still goes in at 5:30am and leaves at 6:00pm everyday. He says he does it because he loves it. Ive watched him do this my whole life and THOUGHT I wanted to be like him, even got my degree to work in the same industry for…
The more I think about this the more I realize I fucked up. I’m going to try and give as much, yet little, detail as possible for job identity purposes. I work at a company for kids. We have big activities and events for them around the US. I recently stepped into a position to lead a big activity for a couple months and it came to an end a couple days ago. It went really well and company wants me to move to another state to do the next big activity. Great opportunity but I cant just up and move without financial support. Original offer was for me to travel there everyday, but since I have no car i’d have to train and bus, which would be about 6h A DAY worth of commuting, 5days a week. Hell no. Living in the area is the only option. So the…
(Mongolian) I’m quitting my job
Hey everyone, I know that there aren't much information coming out of this remote landlocked country that once purported to have spanned almost the entire Eurasian landmass, but hey, I have a story to share, and what better way to do it than to vent about how awful my employer is on r/antiwork. As the title may have already given away, I'm from Mongolia, and I work for this large corporation (Tavan Bogd Group, these f****rs hold the right to franchise KFC and Pizza Hut in Mongolia) as a wage slave. So, what happened was that I just had a 5 day unpaid leave so that I could attend to my health, rest up and just chill. I was supposed to clock in earlier today since my vacation had ended, but since our national healthcare service is woefully understaffed, the only available time for my doctor's check-up was coincidentally placed…
L&E lawyer here with some more knowledge to share about employee rights. In the United States, the Employee Polygraph Protection Act of 1988 (29 U.S.C. § 2001 et seq.) prohibits the vast majority of private employers from using polygraph (lie detector) tests, either for pre-employment screening or during the course of employment. They can't retaliate against an employee for refusing to take one, either, and are required to put up a poster explaining the EPPA on the premises. Employers who violate this law can be fined up to ~$23,000 per violation. And Employees (or prospective employees) can sue for reinstatement, lost wages, and other damages. Of course, there are certain exceptions. The EPPA doesn't apply to federal, state, or local governments. The federal government can administer polygraph tests to federal contractors involved in national security and counterintelligence. And polygraph tests are permitted for some prospective employees of armored car, security…
Why do we do this?
We spend eight hours a day to pretend to like and work with people we can’t stand to pay for apartments and homes we can’t enjoy and then are expected to participate in holiday parties with said people who you know don’t like you all for money that leaves your hand the minute you make it and still isn’t enough and then you get to do it all again the next day…
Tentative Victory?
TLDR: manager thought they could fuck with me, until I reminded them they need me. Got a 13% raise and reduced workload! But will it last? I currently work for a small-ish company that made near $60 million in profits last year. It was ran by a couple, surprisingly, pro(ish) worker boomers, but then the owner died. His son took over, and fancies himself a great capitalist. Within a couple months, our pro union operations manager was ousted for requesting a raise after 35years with the company. Good guy. Along with him went all negotiations for better wages for all of us. The replacement management decided to start off by specifically harassing me, as I was the newest, fully-established (not in training/awaiting licensure) employee. He proceeded to, in both of our very first interactions, call me “A liar,” “thief,” that “does fuck all all fucking day, and produces nothing of…
They were trying to force me to work hours outside of our original agreement (they are short staffed because most employees leave after a week)and I told them that I would work the hours We agreed upon or I would find a new job. Since they are short staffed, they can’t really do anything except give in. Feels good man. I mean not as good as making a living wage I’m sure, but it’s satisfying none the less. Oh btw the company is vape city don’t shop there if there’s one near you. they treat their employees like shit. Also you can find basically all of their products cheaper at NON-CHAIN smoke shops Hopefully this wasn’t to ranty
