I was browsing indeed for about 30 minutes, looking at different jobs to apply and one thing I noticed was how many companies offer over 15/hr in my area where min wage is still 7.25, some noticeable ones were Amazon at 18-20/hr, FedX at roughly 20-21/hr and many others at 16-18 range and similar pay in the receptionist/secretary positions. Then I saw a number of jobs working for the city/court/gvmt and some seemed like serious positions too, starting mostly at 12 dollars with the highest I found at 14. I feel like the private sector is catching on to the social changes happening around us and the talk about raising the minimum wage but the government is still bound by the minimum wage and cannot go very much above it due its existence. It almost makes me think that some of the people who advocate for abolishing the minimum wage…
I heard people talking about it today, as it is sort of coming up. I knew a lot of people who weren’t able to go last year, due to financial reasons. It was at a really nice place, somewhere around $75 if I remember correctly I’m not going out of principle that I would have to pay. I thought it was a pretty unbelievable thing to ask. Yet others apparently had no problem paying/attending Thoughts?
I have an upcoming department dinner invite and hate that companies make it a huge secret and call their events a “surprise” event or “will reveal soon”. As a neurodivergent person and someone who doesn't like the uncertain I need to mentally prepare for this shit so how can I if I don't know what we're doing or where we're going? Not everyone loves surprises, makes me wanna puke.
Firstly, I apologize if this rant doesn’t fit in with the subreddit, I’m just angry and this job has been very upsetting so far and this is the last straw. I also posted this in r/WorkAdvice to see if there’s anything I can do. About 3 weeks ago, I applied for a part time job at a local café. The job description said they paid $18-$22 an hour not including tips, and that we got unlimited free drinks. Naturally, as a poor college student looking for work, I applied thinking this would be a cool side thing. Fast forward 3 weeks, the job has been kind of a mess. Most of my coworkers are friendly, and so is the manager. However I’ve had several issues so far with their training process, long hours with no break, outdated rules and inconsistency and poor communication between all the employees. I applied for…
But there’s ping pong and free coke!
$22/hour for a dev, even in this shitty market is a fucking joke. Maybe I’m too serious but absolutely none of this job posting was funny either. It’s like they had an unpaid internship google funny job postings and mash it together.
So this week at work has been a literal nightmare, and honestly, this is where I draw the line. For the past two weeks, our best manager has been out because she caught COVID. Ever since then, things have gone downhill, from me getting paid incorrectly to our power-tripping current GM yelling at me and closing the drive-thru window, saying, “I don't want the customers to hear me yelling at you guys.” She also yelled at me to stay in place when there were cars lined up outside the window, and she wouldn't let me move to get the apple fritters that the people at the drive-thru window were waiting for. I feel like this has really angered me the most. So around three weeks ago, I submitted a notice that my schedule would be changing due to college classes. No Mondays due to nursing classes and no Sundays…
Food: How do you get through the day?
So I've gotten myself in a position where my schedule doesn't match my family schedule, there are dietary restrictions, and etc. I usually miss breakfast, usually eat a small lunch, and then end up having a pretty large dinner. I know this isn't good, it's basically the reverse of what is suggested. I keep away from acidic foods, have been steering clear of tomatoes and coffee for years. Can't do cow milk. Since I'm gone during normal dinner time, my wife makes the things she and her mom like, which are generally tomato based items. How do you all stay healthy, blood sugars at the right level, and keep ready to face the perils of the workday? Do you have any recommendations based on my limitations?
Why I am anti work
It simply does not financially reward you for your efforts…. You spend years and years and years, usually making somebody else wealthy In a world filled with billionaires and millionaires, there clearly is enough money to go round, but those at the very top will not only not share, but they don't pay their taxes either. Leaving us with the crumbs, if we are lucky. No wonder staff go off long term sick and I don't blame them
