This shows how we got here, as workers, from a historical point of view. https://youtu.be/hvk_XylEmLo
So I work a 9-5 in an office, I’m 23F so I’m low on the totem poll, but I’ve been at this job nearly 8 months. The issue is, is that I have a particular style and I want to “pamper” myself sometimes. I’m not talking about office clothes because obviously I wear appropriate work clothes. I have an event coming up on a weekend and I want to get acrylics/nail extensions and eyelash extensions. I would say my style is quite extravagant, I like getting quite long nails and long eyelashes. My mom, who is a boomer, is telling me not to get them because it’s not work appropriate and people will judge. But idk, is this just a boomer way of thinking and have things changed in the workplace in terms of what’s appropriate/inappropriate?
They’ve paid me everything they owed me. It’s a tablet and a wireless hotspot. I call it a severance package lol. However, some questions do arise: Do yall think they track these gps-wise? And if I use the internet provided by the hotspot, can they identify directly or indirectly (via the carried) me via IP address? Should I just factory reset both? Any constructive input is appreciated.
Is this even legal? (Oregon)
My boyfriend works at a small business 15-20+ employees, on the production team as production manager. The owner texted the whole production team on Thursday letting them know that there wasn’t enough work to do, and not to come in Friday. He did not indicate whether or not he’d be paying them for that day. Bf let it go, because he was happy to have the day off and everyone seemed to be ok with it. However, it is now Sunday and the owner just texted the group saying there’s still not enough to do, and not to come in Monday. Still no mention of pay. Bf has been working for this company for over 2 years and this has never happened. The whole team is full time, Monday-Friday. This is not shift work, and they all rely on consistent income. Owner gives them 40 hours (one measly week) of…
Every day we work, at the end of our shifts we clock out, then wait in line with customers to receive our tips from the cashier line. Normally when we are waiting in line its 5-10 minutes, then after we receive our tips we have to wait for a manager to “walk us out” which depending on the day can be instant (if they are by the cashiers and not busy) to an additional 5-10 minutes. Now it may not sound that bad but it’s essentially 10-20 minutes for EVERY shift and every person. Today there was multiple people waiting for a manager to walk us out (keep in mind there are 5 managers on the floor today). I went and asked for a walk out after about 8 minutes after clocking out (after they had been called multiple times over our headsets). She came after a minute or two…
Mf didn’t realize I had another job lined up
My small company is making it mandatory for staff to attend a three day retreat that is out of town. I guess I am going to get fired, because fuck that, I am not going to be stuck with 25 drunk ass people that I don't even like while they are sober. They had another retreat last year, and all they did was drink and act stupid. I know most people are ok with that, because they get paid to go and act like idiots, but I am not ok with it. Just venting.
If I was a multi-millionaire I never would work. So many better things to do Why is this a huge disqualifying no-no for HR???
My boss is a total w****r
I started a new job in July. I was clear when I first started that my dad is terminally ill and had a short time left. He lives 300 miles away. I've taken a few days as holiday so that I can regularly visit him. Last week, his condition changed potentially for the worst. So I drop everything and go straight there, thar means I need to call out from work for a couple of days. I don't worry about it too much, I figure they'll understand. I get a text today asking me to confirm ill be back at work tomorrow and all week as normal. I tell him that's a negative, it's pretty uncertain and I don't want to commit to coming 300 miles home and going to work. He sends me a message saying that they've tried to be understanding but they cant authorise my absence. I…
