Quitting in Canada

Hey all, just looking for a bit of advice from any Canadians here. I work a crappy retail job, bottom of barrel customer service clerk position though I do work well above my pay grade. My question is; do I have to give 2 weeks or can I just go? I've accepted another job (non retail thankfully) and I'm not worried about hurting my non existant career by just up and leaving. I'm worried if I put in two notice my boss will make it hell and I don't need that right now. I know there's no legal requirement to give two weeks and I know I'm not contractually obligated to give notice. I think what I need is maybe just a little push to go.

Never accept coming in during your non scheduled hours

Nothing ever comes good of it. You don’t get rewarded. You don’t get praise. You may get a bit of extra money but is it worth it ? Every story (including some of my own) that I’ve read here about people being willing to do their boss a favor and come in on their time off or come in early it backfires. They’re treated badly. They aren’t given any leeway. They are treated worse than a regular standard shift The reasoning behind this is, if they’re calling you in they’re currently fucked on staff rn and are desperate. So you get no special leeway. No breaks. No ability to call off, ect. It’s like coming into a burning building and if you don’t douse the fire you’ll burn with it. Never do it !! Ignore those calls and text messages. “Oops ! Sorry. Didn’t see it. I was busy!”

Potential Job keeps asking me to cover shifts before even hiring me

I interviewed at a coffee roaster as a QC & Head Barista position. Did a shadow shift where I just observed everyone & basically hung out for two hours then went home. The next day the owner (who’s on vacation right now) texted me at 6:40am asking me to cover a 7 hour shift starting at 9am that same morning. I declined at stated we hadn’t even agreed on pay ( the interview I had was less than 5 minutes with a hiring manager who just saw my experience & asked me to come in ) and I haven’t even received a job offer. he didn’t respond until this morning at 7am, just agreeing to my wage requirement then immediately asking me to cover a shift today, still without giving me a real job offer or having someone send me a w2 or anything. is this illegal? if not it…

Husband was asked to go to work today after testing positive for COVID-19

Just what the title says. We live with someone who was positive a few days ago, and now he has it. He is running a fever and everything. His manager at Cricket asked him to go in anyway because it’s his birthday and their only other employee can’t cover. So my husband will be exposing everyone he sees today, for fear of losing his job. Getting fired or decreased hours is not an option, because we have a baby to care for. Just living the American dream over here.

What do I do if work isn’t helping with injury?

I fell off of a ladder on the job (about 6 feet) and landed on my hip pretty hard. This happend 4 days ago and I'm still hurting. I don't think anything is broken and I haven't gotten it checked out since I haven't gotten any medical help from my work. I'm a relatively new manager at a Walmart so idk if that has anything to do with it but I am not sure what to do and the whole thing just seems off to me. Is there something legal I can do? I'm not really sure of my options and I don't wanna be rash about going forwards

As if being rejected isn’t bad enough, a hiring manager blocked my number and the interview ended before it even started. But you’re right, “NoBoDy WaNtS tO wOrK.”

I responded to a help wanted ad for a sales job that paid six figures. Mind you, I'm in San Diego and the guy who posted the ad called me from a phone number from a Colorado area code which threw me off. He called and asked for me by name and said I responded to his ad. Me: Yes, this is her. I asked him, “Did I make this inquiry today?” The reason I asked “did I make this inquiry today” is because I applied to a lot of businesses so I wanted to verify his name/his company's name. He said, “Never mind. You're not a good fit.” Before BLOCKING MY NUMBER so I couldn't contact him again!! About an hour later I called him from my 2nd number and said, “Hey, I have a bone to pick with you. You called me to interview me earlier. Do you…

Finding out about company profitability while interviewing?

Anyone have any suggestions how to find out the financial health of a company you are applying to or interviewing with? I don't want to take a job somewhere that is having financial issues and potentially cutting staff in the future to save money, or having other major financial instability that could put my job there at risk. Just asking seems to be unlikely to get a truthful answer and most of the companies I apply to are medium or small businesses so they don't have public financials.

Started a moving job a day ago, I got to work at 6:45am, at 9pm my crew started another move, and I told them I got to get home, and my boss was mad

Am I missing something? Like how do they expect me to show up at work the next day if they don't give me time to go home and get some sleep? I understand that moving can take a lot of time but there should be a cut off time so you know we can deal with shit we got going on irl? I ended up quitting because I live in a transitional living program and we have 11:20 curfew. So I had to get back home, feels depressing to not have a job again, feels like Jobs been having unrealistic expectations lately.

Moving from salary to hourly

Background: I was hired a year ago as a salary employee, residential construction project manager. I've had some life events that require me to miss more work than I'd like, mainly going through a divorce and making sure our 3 kids get the help support and therapy they need. A lot of mid day appointments. I'm averaging 34-36 hours a week. I used up the 80 hours of PTO to fill those weeks to 40. My employment details don't exist on paper at all aside from a few emails and texts agreeing on wage and “benefits” (just 80 hours pto a year and paid holidays). A few months ago, my boss verbally told me he was going to switch me to hourly at a rate that reflects the salary. I followed up with an email for clarification on the exact amount, how he's treating overtime, vacation, time etc. I still…

We’re gonna call you back next week.

No. No you fucking won’t. Just tell me no. That, or pay me for wasting time and gas, and for sure pay me for having to fill out that ridiculous online application.
