General Rent Strike

Question for all people currently renting property. If we were to start a general rent strike, everyone stops paying their landlords rent, say on January 1st 2024… you know… “hypothetically” would you participate? On the condition that the money is saved for repairs to the house and utilities that you'd then be on the hook for. Unless it's like your friend renting a room out to you or something like that. If you have a landlord who lives in another building, or especially another state, would you just tell them to eat shit if everyone else did the same?

Is it really impossible?

I just finished my most recent round of job hunting. After seeing how hard it is even for people like myself with no criminal record, solid references, an address, a phone, a bachelors degree, 3 years experience in my general field of interest, an open schedule, no kids, and the ability to pass a drug screen, it really makes me wonder how on earth anyone without one or more of those things ever manages to get a job. I really feel for you if that's your situation.

Govt Infinite Money Glitch?? (Hypothetical)

I worked a seasonal job for the (US) federal government about a year ago, and I just received a letter in the mail stating I erroneously received a lump sum for an annual leave payout. Whether or not this is legitimate or not, or just pure incompetence by the agency is neither here nor there. It got me to thinking though – If the feds send out “accidental” payments to be reimbursed, at face value it seems they're just morons. I don't argue that buuuut, what if – now hear me out – what if – hypothetically – they send them on purpose. I'd bet the majority of people just pay it back, no matter how difficult it is to get the money, just to get rid of it. So net zero right…..well there's also the people that don't pay it back and get fees, etc eventually collecting the bill,…

Sometimes you’ve just got to up the ante.

Hey all, for your enjoyment – I present a true story from my younger working years. This reaches back into the mists of time to slightly over 20 years ago. I worked as an Amusement technician for a local operating company, and my job was literally go from bar, to restaurant, to laundrymat, to wherever, repairing broken Vending Machines, Jukeboxes, Pinballs, Arcade Games, Pool Tables whatever. It would have been a peaceful life, if my boss hadn't been a total tool. My employer started to get into a very *gray area* in my state – private “casinos”. The state did eventually rule it as illegal gambling a couple years later, but at the time it was just gray. I however didn't want to touch any of those machines (I had a few close friends that had been Rico'd before, and call me paranoid but I don't want trouble) For a…

Help me craft my OoO message

I got an email today that started with “Sorry to bother you on a Saturday, BUT…” and it made me feel like I need to set an Out of Office auto-reply that I turn on every weekend. I'd like to include some helpful content in the reply. Specifically, I'm looking for some links to YouTube videos that talk about healthy work/Life balance strategies. I think I'd like to say something like, “I'm not available over the weekend, and if you feel like you MUST be working, please consider these thoughts:” and the video links would follow. Help me, Reddit!

Passed over for someone else and feeling frustrated

I have well over a decade of experience in my job. I have been with the company for a bit over a decade. I have been in my current role for almost one full decade. My boss left for another job months ago, so I have been doing that job since, which has been instrumental in our department carrying on as normal without any hiccups. HR finally posted the job, and I applied. I interviewed, and it went very well. It might have been one of the best interviews that I've ever done. I was told that several current employees applied but that the applicants were whittled down to just a few, which included me. I know for a fact that I was the only person from my small department to apply, but I have no idea who applied from other parts of the organization. My company doesn't really promote…
