I have an office administrative job. I was originally hired part time because my job takes between 25-30 hrs per week to do. I’ve gotten comfortable in that position and have become fast at completing the tasks. About 2 years ago (I’ve been there 2 & 1/2 yrs) My boss asked if I’d like to learn sales and customer service for one of the three businesses I do admin work for. He said he would pay me commission for both retention and new sales. Okay, sounds great. I have a little spare time. I learned and started making around $300 per month in commission. Which was great. I worked 30hrs each week to work both positions. Then he decided he wanted that side of the company to grow more and hired a part time sales person to focus on increasing sales and retention. This quite literally took money out of…
A favorite historian of mine on Youtube made a video about the history of work hours. It is completely relevant to how awful modern working conditions are, so I figured that I would recommend the video. Historia Civilis – Work. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hvk_XylEmLo
It’s achieving recognition worldwide.
Job I recently started
I recently started a job with a building material distributor. I just left a job in towing that was requiring me to be on call and work 24/7… at this new job I’m M-F, 6am-4pm with the 4pm not being strict and I can leave way before that when the the works done for the day. I love the schedule and getting off early a lot. I am NOT interested in overtime. I’ve spent the past 10 years before moving to towing working every hour of overtime I could usually averaging 70 hours a week. I’m done with that. In the last week a dozen of these signs have been posted everywhere. I was wondering how they were going to work inventory for 3 days and still do deliveries and take care of walk in customers, so I looked at the dates. Dec 8-10 is a Friday-Sunday. I looked over…
May be just my from encounters with people from the US. There seems to be more of a classist stance when talking about jobs. I live in AU, and though there is still a societal view that some jobs are in a more formal or academic space, there is still a general respect to other people not based on ones job. Does not matter if you are a cleaner, in fast food or white collar. Is this a thing or just a perception I got from encounters with a specific group of people from the US?
Contract work is making my head spin. I never thought I'd have to answer to so many people for sitting down and eating. What can I read (or listen to, or watch) to learn all I can about my state's/city's work laws so I can better understand what's at play and protect myself?
I read it so often, we are only truly productive for 3 hours. I do not have a job currently but my past experience can verify this, I was never even half productive for 8 hours long What purpose is there for a company to keep their employees there for 8 hours if it doesnt result in significantly more work done?
I just can’t do it anymore.
