I work at a pretty low traffic store, more than half the time there is no customers inside. Most of the time it’s one employee working at a time but sometimes there are overlapping shifts. Well I’m first shift today and when I got here in the morning, I noticed that our nice (and relatively new) swivel chair was gone. Huh, weird. I asked our janitor if he knew where it was. He said that big boss told him to get rid of it. That she doesn’t want a chair behind the counter anymore. He said he already “threw it away”(!?). Now mind you this chair we had was actually pretty nice and one of my coworkers bought it with his own money (we used to have a different chair but another one of our coworkers broke it). And it was just thrown in the garbage. Now we do have…

I’m surrounded by narcissists
People who write their own names in notebooks, have their name on little display boards all around their office space. Did you forget how to spell your name? Why do you need to see it? People who have stuff laying around like “I'm a monarch” “I'm a queen” “I'm a boss” etc. It sickens me working with such narcissistic people. They're all business majors or have taken some business classes, and narcissism is higher among business students. How much does leadership mean it when they say “We want you to succeed”? No, I don't think they do. I think they just want a good little worker to diligently do work so they can get credit for it, because they only intervene when someone is doing “badly” (aka not meeting their ridiculous standards. They're in meetings all day trying to “better the organization” instead of being among their people and seeing…
Illegal forced lunchbreaks.
(TLDR I'm being illegaly required to take lunch breaks even though it's detrimental to me. I want advice on how to navigate this with as little chance of retaliation as possible) Additional info: I understand that this would be the opposite of a problem for many people but considering the context of how my job is set up, I promise it makes sense. I'm looking for advice on how to deal with this without getting retaliation Generally speaking, my work day ends as soon as I finish the tasks on my schedule. Regardless of this, about 20-40% of my work hours are comprised of short periods of time that I'm required to stay on the job sites even after the jobs have been completed due to some company policy that are very arbitrary about duration times of services. I am unable to clock out for lunch during these times, so…
I revised this about nine times over the last ten days and probably another nine times between yesterday afternoon and this morning. I sent it about an hour ago. I'm not relieved yet. I'm not 100% sure what to be. I just wanted this to be over. Hopefully it will kick in… 29 September 2023 Dear [Director]: This letter shall serve as notice of my resignation from [position/department] at [employer]. As I have been on a leave of absence, a two-week notice seems unnecessary; therefore, my resignation shall take effect immediately. I will return my laptop to [the office] on an undetermined date in the near future. I have no future professional plans as my health – physical *and* mental – must take precedence over success and the income that accompanies it. I would rather remain semi-homeless, living in an R.V. with inadequate heat and refrigeration, than return to a…
Been at my current job for just about a year, sort of middle of the totem pole. Pretty good pay for the area, company was complete shit morally and ethically and I've been looking to get out for a few months now, but just haphazardly. I was called in for an in-person meeting on an out-of-office day. Just my boss in our dingy, dark, and poorly maintained building. That sent my Spidey senses on edge, but figured I'd see what was up. I had had a few disagreements with my boss over a few work items recently but I never felt they were serious and were kept pretty professional. I was given new project work as early as last week. Walk into the conference room and the HR director is on the screen, dialed in from wherever he lives. Was just told “After many discussions, we've decided today is your…
The owner of the company does not attend most online meetings but rather sends a bot that records it for him. I find this extremely rude because he is suppose to attend these meetings so we can ask him questions or get answers. I'd be fine if it was a policy that every meeting gets recorded so it can be rewatched for people that weren't there, but when he just sends a bot where he is a required attendee in the meeting, to me is like taking the piss. Do you think this is normal, or am I overreacting?
Former Employer Appealing Unemployment
After a year and a half of employment I was fired in July (reduction in force) from Spacestation in Utah and received 30 days of severance. I filed for unemployment after that ran out and I am dependent on it to pay my mortgage. To my surprise, last week I received a notice that my unemployment is being appealed and I have a hearing on Oct 3rd. I'm pretty anxious about it getting pulled. I'm pushing hard for a new job but have had no progress in 2.5 months. Is there anything I can or should do to help my case? This is the message that was sent in the appeal. (ME) elected to receive, and was paid, 1 month of severance pay and continuation of benefits upon separation. Based on the decisions made for the other employees who were let go during this reduction of force, we believe that…
