Hey everyone, last week the department leads pulled in tech support for a meeting. They said that the other departments said our department looks like we’re always goofing off and have no work. The reality is we work in tech support and the majority of the work comes in via tickets from our clients. Less tickets = less work. Of course, when I’m not doing tickets I wanted to do something productive so I would just study quizlet flash cards while waiting to do something. Apparently, this means that our team is goofing off and not doing any work. Now all we’re allowed to do is look at work for 8 hours a day. And the leads said they would give us ‘homework’ to keep us busy. They also said not to get disgruntled because of this. Seems like everything they say is just bs to brainwash us to look…
Ooze away.
This all started when some dummy decided that humans should (and remain the only species on the planet who,) work for an imaginary currency to pay to exist.
I got a job offer which pays very less for the city it's in. Rent will eat up half the salary and rest would go in other expenses ( I don't even know if it will be enough, I'll have to SERIOUSLY cut my expenses). It is also a 6 day work week. It is extensive work. Not only will I have to do digital work using my digital skills, I also will have to run around and get things done ( it is an export house). There would be absolutely no scope of creativity either. Oh and the interviewer asked me ” Are you not getting married soon? ” when I told her my age I'm 25 (f). Maybe it doesn't bother most people but casual sexism / homobhobia is very frustrating to me (I'm also queer). My parents are pressuring me to take it because I'm not getting…
I’ve been looking around online and I find it difficult to find an answer for this. I’m planning on quitting a shitty job today and I used my PTO earlier in the pay period. If I quit without a notice does my employer have the ability to revoke that used PTO before my check goes out? Tennessee, for location. If there’s a better place to ask this, please let me know! Thank you all.
This is a problem I often debate about internally is whether I truly fit in with the company/coworkers I work with despite me liking the job and being good at it. Basically, the group of people I work with seem to all be the exact opposite of me. They love hanging out after work, going out for lunch together, going drinking at basically any bar/restaurant they can find in the city, going to clubs and so on. This isn't just a few people, this is the entire group I work with, management included. Me on the other hand, I don't care for any of that and just see this as a “9-5 job” where the second I'm done work for the day I just want to go home, not hang out with anyone there or think about work or anything. My relationship with everyone is that they're coworkers. They're not…
I've been saving money and I'm still an extended period away from making a change myself. But I'm curious what percent of people regret leaving white collar corporate America for something different. I'm curious what your stories are.
Advice regarding no shows
I’m in California right now visiting my terminally Ill friend. I need this job I have temporarily so I can continue to pay my bills. I forgot to call in yesterday and no showed, I still need to call in today. What should I say as to make sure I do not get fired?

Coworker with checkered past
I've been at my blue collar job for a year. I've never had a problem with a hothead until a couple months ago. He's over the age of 45. To be clear, we are equals, we are not supervisors. There are three incidents where the guy rudely insisted on respect. Read the entire post before commenting. I'll explain incidents #2 & #3. Incident #2 happened in mid-July. Part of my job description is spray priming metal parts and frames. I put on my protective suit and air mask. As soon as I did this, *Roy (not real name) tells me, “That's disrespectful. Can't you see I'm already suited up.” Roy tries to get me to spar with him. I stare back at him. I don't argue back. He says to me, “I like this shit.” Oh my. Now I know Roy likes to stir the pot. This happened on a…
