I started an AP job for a large concessions company in February. I was hired on at $27 an hour. A week later my whole family died in a house explosion. I took a couple of days off but continued to work. The AR person made $30 an hour which seemed fine considering he had more responsibilities. In May , both the AR Clerk and the accounting manager quit. I applied for the accounting manager position and was denied because I didn't have enough experience. The controller ended up hiring one of his friends to fill the roll. Since the first two people quit, I was on my own for a month doing everyones job, with help from another team member in another branch. The new accounting manager is great and not a boomer like my boss. When my boss and I discussed him hiring the new AM , he assured me it was not due to nepotism. He also promised me that I would get a title change and raise in October. I have been doing both AP and AR work for four months now. We finally hired a new guy to take over the AP position two weeks ago. Talking to him today, I found out he is making $30 an hour… I am freaking livid. Not only have I been dealing with a horrific tragedy and doing the jobs of multiple people , I am making less than the guy who they just hired into my position while also training him. I sent an email to my boss demanding a raise to $35 an hour and the title change I was promised. I am done being underpaid. I am done being overworked. Is this wage discrimination due to my gender? If my email isn't addressed by the end of the week, I will be sending a follow up email to HR and my bosses boss about the sexism and nepotism. Oh and my boss told the new guy not to talk to me about his wages…
