Pardon my french but, isn’t it a bit ridiculous (from a math perspective) to have a really expensive CEO running your business?

So let's say I'm the shareholder of some big ass Fortune 500 company, why would I hire some hot shot that's gonna cost me $50M when I could probably find some workers from inside the same company, give them some juicy $500k bonus to run the show and the profits could go even higher ($49.M to be precise)?
