Parents upset at me for calling out of work for a day.

I, (18M) called out of work last night because my girlfriend fell ill and had to leave work early. For context she lives with us but my parents are out of state right now. She left early from work due to a pounding headache and vomiting and had a low fever. Since nobody else was home I figured it was best not to leave her alone for the night in the event she started feeling worse or just simply needed assistance because she was under the weather so I made the decision to call out of work with as much notice possible.(7 hours ahead of my shift, and nobody else was needed to cover last minute as there was another person scheduled the same night too, and the job is not strenuous or overwhelming for a single person, I work alone constantly with no issues. They found out I didn’t go in to work and asked me, so I told them the truth and now they’re upset I made that decision. Just looking for other peoples thoughts on if what I did was inherently unintelligent or wrong/disrespectful in any way, not looking for venom to spit in their face with, just trying to understand!
