Hey all. I work at a hotel run by greedy assholes who try to overcharge customers all the time and then skimp me on pay. I’ve had every other paycheck bounce for the last few months and it really annoyed me (no direct deposit) but I’d eventually get the money so I’ve endured it. But now two things happened recently; my most recent paycheck today only has half my hours for the pay period (rounded down to 39 instead of 40, even) and also I requested sick pay that from my research they have to pay me for by law, but they’ve refused to pay it out. The owner told my manager that the sick pay will be in my “next paycheck” for a few pay periods now, so I was hoping for at least something a little higher than my usual $900 check but instead it’s only $430.
Ahhhh!!! What do I do? My manager is a decent guy, I think, and the owners who I rarely see are the ones calling all the shots. I’m too poor to want to spend time and money fighting this from a legal standpoint but maybe I will if I must. I just want to get paid, man.
I’m thinking of telling my manager that I won’t be coming in until I’m paid what I’m owed for last period plus the sick pay, so at least he might feel urgency to rectify things. But I’m at a loss. All for a crappy 14.50/hour!
Edit: Update: When my manager came in to relieve me, I showed him the paperwork of my time clock and how it doesn’t match with my check. I cashed my check earlier this night for the 50% pay, and told him I need the other 50% and the sick pay before I come back. The internet was also down for 4 hours so I wasn’t able to do some of my tasks. So he has to salvage the work I couldn’t do, plus cover me tonight and confront the owners. I feel bad for the guy but I have to look out for myself.
