Paycut/ demotion or severance and leave

Venting about being taken advantage of. I’ve been with this company for awhile now. I had gotten two promotions while there. I left and returned within a brief period and only accepted return to work based on salary requirements. I was promised in writing and contractually that I would receive manager salary and manage a team throughout the summer. This position was to continue into our new project that I would be overseeing. I returned to the job with the expectation I would continue manager role as discussed. I worked as a manager all summer. However, I was just asked to either take a pay cut and demotion back down to a previous title that’s not manager or I could take severance and leave. I was promised in writing and contractually that I would receive manager salary and manage a team throughout the summer. I returned to the job with the expectation I would continue manager role as discussed. I worked as a manager all summer. I feel like this is really shady for a few reasons.
I feel like this is retaliation for speaking up about issues.

  1. I reported bullying/ harassment and nothing was done about it. In fact, the employee who verbally assaulted me was never fired and was given another post.

  2. I recently said no to a Saturday training that was scheduled last minute with no notice to anyone. I had prior commitments and couldn’t get out of them. The training was rescheduled easily and then the next day I was told to make a choice.
    We have an agency calendar with blackout dates and this Saturday was never on it. They just added it last minute.

When given this ultimatum I did express my frustration over the promises I was made.

Long story short they ran out of money and waited till the last minute to tell employees.
