Is this ever a thing at other companies, a thread in /vfx says a company offers paycuts (to avoid redundancies presumably with the Writers strikes), sounds unethical to me to be in debt to the company you work for?

One poster said the deal was
– take a 20-25% cut for 7 months
or – take a 50% cut but they loan you 40% that you pay back to them over 3 years.
Anyone worked at a company that did this?
