Question, I see many people often say, “If you want to quit, just don't show up to the job, you owe them nothing.” Doesn't that hurt your career when you interview for another job and they want to check references?
I get it if it is a seasonal job, but what about a career where this can bite you in the butt? I'm curious because I've always felt hostage to my employer in some way.
Even now, when I was laid off, I kind of reported some bad behavior before they let me go and I'm afraid they could use that to retaliate against me. Though as I write this, I realize that this would be illegal wouldn't it?
I'd love to read your thoughts on this. I hate feeling trapped and hostage to an employer. I want that freedom that I see so many of you demonstrate.
