I look at careers like private equity, and am perplexed by what it is they actually offer the world, and yet, these people make money hand over fist. Maybe I'm not well read enough, but it seems like these companies have created a market for what they do to attract talent, and simply exploit legal loopholes, and relationships, to take as much money as possible while laying waste to anything that gets in their way. I hear interviews with these types on CNBC or elsewhere, where they really suck themselves off. I have no idea what they have done to make people's lives better besides making money for themselves and their clients by screwing over someone else.
I have a similar feeling towards a lot of media outlets and talent (even Youtube-types, or OnlyFans “personalities”). I know this comes off as bitter, and it kind of is. I watch these people, and sure, the content is often great, but also sometimes absolute shit, like this SSSniperwolf chick. But, when I hear them talk about how hard they work, I kinda scoff. Maybe it's jealousy. I find it hard to appreciate their efforts when I know how hard some people work in traditional blue collar or white collar jobs, retail work, and so forth. All the shit they have to put up with only to make fractions of what these people make for posting videos on why their opinions are right or showing their feet.
No career is safe from this, and I encounter it in my own menial job with people who seem to pride themselves on passing their work off, but taking credit as much as possible. The American ideal has shifted heavily into a place where it's all about how much money you make, and how easily you can make it. No need for morality, no ethics, no compassion. All that matters is the top where you have a nice view of the firestorm ensuing down here on planet earth.
At least it's Friday.
