Perfect example of how Americans think

Got into an argument with a person who’s under the impression that every single employer in the US follows every law and regulation. Specifically, follows the law according to “required time off to vote”. He says that employers don’t deny that time off, and if they do, it’s just as easy as filing a report and you win your case. I explained that not every case is like that, and many employees have no resources to actually win a case like that. Additionally, this person is under the impression that if you’re unemployed, you should take any job that you can find because there are thousands. Specifically for my situation when I explained that I’d applied to 500+ jobs with a handful of of phone interviews that haven’t panned out, he said he says I should go work fast food, retail, or Amazon/QuikTrip for a guaranteed $35k/year. Got into an argument with a person who’s under the impression that every single employer in the US follows every law and regulation. He thinks I should take a 50% pay cut and I’ll be fine. With a masters degree. He thinks I can live on $35k/year and be able to have kids (or a decent life in general) and not be close to poverty because we live in the dirt-cheap shithole of Oklahoma. I explained that every time I apply for lower-level jobs, I am met with “why are you applying for this, you’re overqualified”. And get no 2nd interviews. This has happened for fast-food, retail, AND corporate entry level jobs on my end. He thinks that that’s not the case- “you’re telling me a 16 year old can find a job at QuikTrip, but you can’t? That’s very telling”. Yes sir, that is very telling. Thanks for proving my point. He said that “us” millennials expect everything to be handed out, like expecting 100k/year and finally making 300k/year after 6 months. Yeah, sure, whatever you say with your Boomer ass, that’s exactly what every single millennial expects to earn. Mhmm.

Dude was on our local city’s subreddit. Delusional.

Edit: meant to say 50% cut instead of 100%
