Idk if this is the correct sub for this question, but at my work place we get three separate kinds of PTO– sick, vacation and personal. We get 3 personals a year and I sort of last minute asked to use one today by saying “hey, a personal obligation suddenly popped up and I have to take care of a few things. Could I use a personal day tomorrow?”
My boss said yes and was very nice about it (she's not going to be there tomorrow either so 🤷️).
However, I'm kind of worried how I asked came off as if something bad had happened, when in actuality it just dawned on me that I have very little work to do tomorrow and I need to catch up on housework and errands and other things like that.
I just don't want to come back Monday and have them bombarding me with the “is everything ok?” “Did everything work out?” Blah blah because in all honesty all that popped up is housework and chores. If they do start questioning, I dont really want to lie and make up some horrible scenario as to what “popped up” that I had to take care of, but I also don't wanna be like yeah I just took off to do house work and now my house is clean
I've never used a personal day as I've only been here full time for 6 months so I just don't know how my coworkers would react if I was honest.
So my question kind of is, if you've ever been in this scenario, what do you say?
Sorry if this is a dumb question or the wrong sub to ask it in. Just wanted some other opinions. 🤷️
