PIP – Performance Improvement Plan
I work for a large Fintech company in New York, one that most people have heard of. I'm a 42 YO woman in a team of 4 men and me.
I switched roles in this company 4 months ago to get my dream job. We're on a 2 year strategic team where we don't have to show any revenue and in about 6 months we're either going to have to start generating revenue or spin off into a joint venture.
I'm really senior at my company, have a great salary with amazing benefits. I'm the breadwinner in my family and provide all our medical benefits, including unlimited IVF cycles,, which I would have spent 100k on this year.
My bosses know that I had a pregnancy loss last year and asked over drinks one time if I'm planning to have more children. I was recently hospitalized for a condition typically associated with pregnancy, so they could reasonably assume I'm trying to get pregnant.
In the past few months, I get the vibe that something has gone sideways and I'm about to be on a PIP. Part of it is that my boss and I are just not jiving but part of me wonders if they're worried that they'll struggle to make revenue with me on parental leave.
I desperately need healthcare and a salary for my family. I would gladly take a severance package if that was on the table, but I'm not sure if that's the kind of thing you can negotiate after going on a PIP. What do I do?
