I work for a small local employer doing factory work, the whole thing is like the wild west. There's no policy on attendance or tardiness.
I would often show up a few minutes late. I'm really good about being there but I have been late.
6 months ago my TL said I needed to improve my punctuality or they would have to consider some form of counseling. I started being on time but then everyone starts showing up late and calling out.
They now have an epidemic of call outs and tardiness. On Thursday my TL says I need to sign this paper saying I'm going to be on time for the next 30 days or I'm fired.
I tell him to eat shit.
Then I had a meeting with the big boss and TL big boss says if I dont sign I'm fired. I get pissed and sign it.
NOTHING has ever been documented previously so I'm thinking on Monday of saying I don't mind signing a verbal warning and that I signed Thursdays probation document under duress and then if they want to fire me, go ahead.
My biggest concern would be being able to successfully claim unemployment.
Thoughts?
