“Please stay at no benefit to yourself”

I recently put in my two weeks at a leasing office (with no other job lined up because I'm not my family's breadwinner). Two days after I put in my notice, I was asked if I was willing to stay because they were going to “put me on” certain sensitive tasks that I happen to be very good at handling. I said that I would consider it, but that I would need to adjust my hours and that, given that my new role is more difficult and more specialized, I'd like to see a pay increase. I also discussed the possibility of working part time Today, the regional brought me into her office and broke the news that there would be no different job, nor different pay. I cannot possibly understand the rationale behind this. I was offered almost nothing to continue working here. If I'm already checked out enough to put in my notice, I'd obviously be looking for something else if I stayed. I'm tempted to go part time so I can bring in some cash while I continue my search.
