What's everyone's predictions on what will happen to these workers? The ones that were approved to go fully remote and approved to relocate to another part of the state or another state entirely. I'm already seeing hostility from coworkers who were forced to go back to a hybrid schedule (3 days a week), and now we're seeing companies like Roblox say “relocate back to the area or look for another job.”
I predict these workers will be fucked in a years time and will have to either pay to relocate back near the office (not feasible for most employees, everyone is struggling financially right now), find new remote work, or find a new job that is local where they can go into the office.
My thoughts on driving factors are:
- Local economies are suffering from workers not spending money
- Commercial real estate is suffering from people not going into office
- Banks don't want to keep people in these low-interest <3% mortgage rates and want to push us out
The whole bait and switch is quite fucked if you want my honest opinion, but what can you do. Welcome to corporate America!
