I’m probably an idiot. I know never to accept anyone’s word without having it in writing. But I took a position as supervisor of my department after the previous one unexpectedly passed away. I’ve always been a grunt, even though the work I do is more advanced than most of the people working here. But when it came to talking about a raise, I took them at their word that “we’ll discuss that after you’re finished training.” I stupidly signed the paperwork late last week and after all the chaos of the last few months, I’m finally sitting back and realizing I screwed up… if they give me anything it’s gonna be a meager penance. Im already paid under market value but there’s nothing else like this where I live and I kind of love my job. But $19/hr really isn’t cutting it, even in a rural area like this.
But I don’t believe for a second they’ll ever pay me what I’m worth.
