I was EXHAUSTED. I had been working my max hours for 3 years with only an off weekend here or there, so I decided to put my saved up PTO into action and take off for 2 weeks (after getting lots of bad news in my personal life, not limited to legal litigation, failing health of a family member I live with, that essentially requiring me to act as a part time caretaker….)
I called my boss the second I heard about my most recent stressor. Told her I needed time off NOW, either as an LOA, or by using my PTO (we had just missed the time off request period for June, so she would have had to workaround the usual methods of requesting PTO).
She told me to write it in our punch log, so I did. I didn't write in the book correctly (I even asked someone and was given wrong info) so when my second week of vacation rolled around, she had put me on the schedule for that week. I told her shes out of luck. We had discussed this already.
VERBALLY!
Boss called me last night stating that “Im afraid because you wrote it in our log incorrectly. I'll be forced to open a case with HR. Im giving you this phone call as a courtesy so you'd know.”
Even though I went directly to her, the second I was able, and did exactly as instructed…(God forgive me for writing 2 weeks into one line.) Now simply because I didn't put in the formal request PRECISELY as corporate demands, Im going to have to listen to everyone bitch and whine about how I dropped the ball.
Maybe even actually catch flak for this, my record otherwise has been spotless for my whole tenure.
OF COURSE she's doing this to cover her ass, but i would not have gone over her head to Her manager, anyways!!
Im tired of my mgmt being so inconsistent with how they lead. This boss of mine has been letting other employees behave RIDICULOUSLY and whenever I spoke up, I was either shot down, or retaliated against.
Time to go back to job hunting.
