I’ve been at this place for 7 months. I asked for a 6 month raise, it was denied. The last month, my hours have been cut in half. I decided to look for a new job and got one with a large raise, more hours, and a better general career trajectory. Also, customers won’t call me slurs.
I gave my boss my 2 weeks yesterday and she freaked. She expected MONTHS of notice so I could train my replacement. She kept telling me “what am I going to do, you tell me, what am I going to do.” When I reminded her she is a business owner and this is her responsibility, she cried and said “oh so you’re not going to help at all? Great.”
I’ve offered to come in and help out for a month or two after work. I’ve offered to come in on my days off and help out. I’ve offered to train my replacement if they can find one. I offered to write down every last bit of knowledge I gained over 7 months free of charge. None of it is good enough.
She is upset. She’s telling me how I’m making a bad career move and I’m going to crash and burn. She keeps telling me “I thought you might be unhappy but then I thought NO, she would NEVER do this to me, she would talk to me about it.”
She’s saying if I had told her how dire things were, she would’ve given me a raise. I made $360 last week in the most expensive city in the US, how could things not be dire?!
Now I have to face her and her guilt for 2 weeks and it sucks. I’m so glad to be moving on.
