My current employer has been mine since i was 17. I have dedicated the last 4 years or so of my life to them, however I accepted a new position with another company last week.
I have been having problems with this company ever since January, when my doctor placed me on a medical leave. I had to get a bunch of paperwork filled out by a doctor stating why I was off work and what it limited, and when my paperwork showed it was for Mental Health reasons my short term disability was denied as “we do not cover laziness and relaxation”
Quick thing to note, the second you go on a leave your paycheques are supposed to stop while awaiting approval for short term disability. Mine didn’t for the first 2 checks.
Mind you, I have Bipolar disorder and my brain does not process stress properly. I could be properly medicated and everything, and the stress will trigger a bad depressive episode, or a bad manic episode.
When I was on my leave, I had received a FB message from my boss stating “I know your note says end of May, but if you aren’t back to work by April 17, we will have to release you for Job Abandonment”
So I returned, despite still adjusting to my medications and still requiring regular hour long to 2 hour long meetings with my mental health team regularly. After the second meeting, I wound up having to stop them as my work was not going to let me leave to see my team.
So, a week ago today (Friday) I put in my notice as I had accepted a job with another company. My boss sent me a long email begging me to stay “we are so short staffed and you are the only one who can handle this, this and this!”
However I very quickly realized that my car will not handle all of the driving that this job requires, and I do not have any money in savings to fix it or buy a new one.
Therefore, at the beginning of this week I attempted to withdraw my resignation. I figured with the way my boss was talking, they would at least try and keep me or even switch teams. But nope.
Took 4 days for a reply to my email. At the end of the first day, I got an email stating I had an error on an account for over $8,700. Our normal errors are $400~ and my highest previous error was $1900. I had never had this account before, as a colleague of mine handles them usually. I asked for her calculations, to which she stated that the error was actually for $640. Attempted to combat the error and was met with no response.
Then on Day 2, I got an email from payroll stating that they conveniently noticed they had paid me at the beginning of my leave and that the balance owing would then be taken out of my last two checks, bringing them down to the $400~ range instead of $1000.
Then on Day 4, I got word. “You’re request to withdraw your notice has been denied as we have filled your position as of this morning. You should have brought this to our attention sooner. However we cannot offer your position back now as per the error on X account. This error is not okay and puts your stats way above our limit. We apologize but we can not rehire you at this time.”
So now I am out of a job. And I am so tempted to walk out without finishing the rest of my notice.
