A job was advertised at £25k with charity X. After putting a heck of a lot of effort into the application I got an interview.
At the END of the interview they read out a disclaimer saying that 3 of the 4 positions would actually be with charity Y and paid at £23k. They said that charity Y will be reviewing the salary in light of the cost of living crisis.
I was completely shocked after the interview and began applying for other jobs, however I hadn't secured anything else by the time they rang me to offer me the job. I also didn't know if I'd be offered the post at a higher salary until that call.
I took the job, hoping to secure something else asap – and I finally have!
Quitting felt so good. They lied about the pay review, and didn't even give us a raise in line with inflation – so another effective pay cut. There was nothing on the description to suggests anything in the disclaimer, it was deliberate deception to get attract and trap workers.
The project and management are a joke, incredibly poorly organised and ill thought out. I don't think the charity has the resources to adequately deliver on the project. I've spent 2 months basically being set up for the job, and now I'm off – toodaloo!
Times are tough for charities (not-for-profits) but I've lost sympathy. They often treat their front line workers like absolute rubbish and expect them to deliver high quality support without training or development, or decent pay!
Onwards and upwards for me, and hopefully these charities learn not to deceive people.
