I am relatively new at this place but otherwise experienced employee. I work in software development, specialized in industrial control. This is not my first job.
I just had my yearly talk with my manager about performance review, upraisals, salary increases, etc. They make just one such in a year and for my surprise HR is not present. The reviewer is only my direct manager / team lead.
He explained to me that they have a rating system like A/B/C/D where A is excellent and D is you need a new job. He explained also that he is very happy with my performance and everything was running smoothly. This is in fact also my view, I was working really hard to keep everything in check and the year was very successful in my view. Because of all this his rating is B, in his words I have done everything very well and exactly as expected. I asked them why not rated with A? He said that for A I need to do something extraordinary, extra, something to overshoot expectations. Salary increase or promotion they will give for A rating, for B nothing … Just tap on the shoulder from boss.
I feel really cheated – for doing your job well and working hard to make everything in time and right I got nothing extra. As he said – I did everything right exactly as it was expected and therefore there is nothing extra. HR is also not present at all, I don't know is it normal? I saw her just once so far, when I signed the contract.
