Recording Video Interview Questions

Does anyone else hate those requests to record yourself answering questions? I'm looking for remote work and I have seen this several times now. When I was looking for remote jobs years ago I would spend HOURS going over the questions, writing my script, and recording myself only to never hear back. It doesn't seem worth it. Would I be shooting myself in the foot if I just didn't do the recordings and move on? If they want to see an actual person answer questions maybe they should idk…. interview me? They should know just from looking at my resume if they like me or not in which they will schedule an interview so why the video? It feels like a total waste of time on my part. Maybe I'm wrong and this is an expected part of applying for remote work.
