Quick synopsis.

I have an hourly job in an industry that while I don't necessarily enjoy, I am compensated enough to live comfortably. A recruiter reached out to me and expressed interest. I am in a stable job and have no incentive to leave, and I genuinely like my co-workers. I told this individual that for me to consider the position I would have to be compensated at least 40/hr. His reply was that it was a salaried position, so I countered with 110k per year. I was told that was very far outside the range for this STARTUP company. This was my reply.

“That is completely OK. Unfortunately, and with all due respect, I am not in a position to entertain job offers that have the potential to abuse the title of a salaried position to under compensate and overwork employees. If you have a salary range, I would be open to hearing it. Best Regards.”

The reply I got was simply that they will take take that into consideration when reaching out for future roles.

Sorry, I'm not going to take a salaried position at a startup and be obliged to work unlimited hours for free. My experience alone comes with a premium.
