I applied for a job last month and the interview process was so grueling. I went through the typical half hour phone screening and was invited to come back for a real interview. This is where it starts getting fucked.
The interview was 1.5 hours long (during the day when I had work) and was structured as two rounds of a “panel style” interview with other members from the team. It ended with a one-on-one with the director.
It doesn’t end here. I was then invited back to a second interview. For this interview (also 1.5 hours), I had to complete an assignment that took me nearly 5 hours to complete and then presented my findings to the entire team. They then asked me follow up questions to justify my work. I finally met with the VP to answer any outstanding questions.
She told me how they typically function is they are not the ones to make the decision, but instead the more Junior level team members vote on who they think would fit the culture of the team and it’s dynamic the best. Interesting I thought.
Anywho, a little over a week passes on with not hearing back and I figured at this point I didn’t get the job. I received an email from them today confirming my suspicion. Just super frustrating given how involved this process was. I spent nearly 10 hours on this?? Why is all of that necessary for the hiring process??
