I work for a company that contracts us as 'contingent workers' to a big investment bank. We do IT related work for them. I have never been into an office from day one of this job and have been with them about 2.5 years. They announced today on very short notice (30 minutes) that 'effective yesterday' we are required to be in office 5 days a week. Some objections were made such as picking kids up from school, to which they said:
“pre COVID you never heard such a question like 'oh there are no bus routes so I need to pick up my kids' this never happened pre COVID and thats how the client wants it going forward”
Objections were made regarding commute time which were responded to by stating that commuting issues shall be addressed by using leave.
So far it has been a communication to the team at large. My commute will be 2 hours each way. I don't know how I will respond when / if the manager reaches out to me individually.
